For those of you familiar with Sarah's cookbooks, she has been diagnosed with breast cancer http://www.blog.govegan.net/bad-news/

It makes me so sad, cancer is the forking worst and Sarah is one of my heroes. She'll get through this though, she's tough.

I'm glad she wrote about, I'm greatly annoyed that someone dare tell her to eat a macrobiotic diet to cure it.

Also raw vegan, no oil, green juice, and qi gong. People are idiots.

I wish her well. That was a very good, moving post. It sounds like she hopefully caught it early. Fingers crossed.

It's brave, in a way, to be so public about it, since it will open her up to (unwarranted) criticism.

I don't know anything about her and have never read her blog or anything but that post instantly made me feel like I've been a follower forever. She's so brave and I think it's wonderful that she shared in the way she did, and is so encouraging of others to stay on top of their breast health.

Oh no, this makes me so sad. She seems like such an amazing and strong person, and I have admired her for so long. She wrote the first vegan cookbook I ever bought, and I have so many great memories from making her recipes.

Yeah, she seems really cool - I've met her a few times in Santa Cruz when she came for book events (my first vegan cookbooks!), and we went to her shop when we were in Victoria for our honeymoon. I really admire how she wrote about her experience with humility and openness and honesty.
Wouldn't it be cool to send her some sort of amazing vegan care package of love from the Greater Community Of Vegans?

This is really sad. One of her books was the first vegan cookbook I ever cooked out of.

How It All Vegan was my first vegan cookbook, although admittedly, I've barely cooked out of it. I read it cover to cover though and love her writing!

I'm glad they seem to have caught it early and I really hope she manages to kick it.

(And what the fizzle with the comments about macrobiotic, no oil, blabla? I was almost afraid that someone would show up to blame her use of soy. :/)

I was thinking, it would be really cool to do something to show our support.

This is awful, but she's so brave to be open about it. And people telling her to switch to a _____ diet are so full of it.

That is terrible news; I am so sorry to hear she and her family are going through this. But breast cancer has a very rate of cure now, and while sending a tidal wave of good thoughts, we have every reason to believe that she will make a complete recovery and continue to live a long, happy, and healthy life.

what about like...a we love sarah kramer facebook page where people could write how she's helped them with veganism or just positive stuff on the wall. is there a way to keep out the aholes, though?

Such terrible news, all the best to her. I really admire the way she wrote about it- it comes across as very 'real' (for lack of a better word). I would be happy to send over a couple of Australian goodies if a care package or some sort happens.

That shiitake drives me 75 kinds of crazy. In what way is that helpful?

It seems she caught it early. She didn't mention any lymph nodes. I wish her an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery.

That reminds me, it's time to schedule another breast ultrasound, no matter how painful and unpleasant it feels.

I also just wanted to say that I found a lump in my breast nearly 2 years ago and I was extremely scared. I went and got a mammogram (they noted how young I was... uhh ok), they took pictures and told me I had young breast tissue, hard to see, needed to go back and do an additional mammogram. Then did ultrasound. Then was told that it wasn't cancer. Luckily I had insurance so none of the back and forth cost me anything other than stress.

I echo everything everyone has said La Dolce Vegan was one of the first vegan cookbooks I ever purchased (I bough VWAV at the same time). I'm glad she wrote about it though.

Sarah is such a happy, upbeat, positive vegan role model, I believe in her ability to kick the crepe out of this.

And boo to people immediately jumping in to tell her what she should be doing. Not eating nuts is not going to magically cure your forking cancer. Why can't people just offer their support and then STFU?
