I work right by a few of the John Hughes' filming locations. The church from 16 Candles, the high school from Breakfast Club, Cameron's house from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the house from Home Alone.....

I love this thread.

I work in the art world so I have a lot of "NY art star" day to day dealings that would probably just be totally boring, also my boss and a few of my coworkers used to work for one of the biggest living contemporary artists, which is a nice family get together antidote when no one ever knows who I'm talking about and are thus usually unimpressed. There also seems to always be something filming somewhere all the time in the neighborhoods where I have worked or lived or do live now, but those never lead to anything exciting or any great sitings, really. (Remember that show Lipstick Jungle? No? They used to film one of the character's clothing stores/design space in an empty office across the street from my old apartment building.) One time in chelsea my friend and I followed Tim Gunn creepily for a while, because, Tim Gunn! All other famous person sitings have (mostly) paled in comparison, except for Courtney Love and Kathleen Hanna. Also, the woman who babysits the kids I used to nanny for now is Lena Dunham's old cleaning lady. Totally bizarre.

Here's my favorite though, and the one I always get excited to tell people about - I went to a dinner party at Gloria Steinem's house once! She wasn't there, but still! My friend's (now ex) girlfriend was the personal assistant to a feminist writer who had in the past worked for Gloria, and thus ended up house sitting for her for a length of time! She got permission to have a bunch of people over and we hung out there and had a dinner party. I got to see her bedroom and had her cat sit in my lap (he was long haired and named Galahead) and drank wine in her office that was filled with the most amazing photographs of her with everyone in the world that's great and all of her books and papers. Mostly now the whole night is a bit of a blur because I was so crazy hyped up on hanging out at Gloria Steinem's house that I feel like I couldn't properly focus on much.

ALSO this surprised me so much when I clicked on it & saw the band! My friend/old housemate from college use to date the (girl) singer from this band. They also used to play a lot of shows at the house I lived in in college & are friends with a bunch of my friends/acquaintances from college. Small world!

I forgot about my most famous one! I was in a commercial once. You know those annoying Brandpower or Medifacts commercials? I was in the Brandpower commercial for Abreva. I had a few people recognize me on the street. I tried looking it up on their website because they used to have it up, but I can't find it anymore, which is a blessing really because it's very embarassing.

^I've seen the commercial! I love it!!! It's not embarrassing as far as I'm concerned but I know how things seem if you yourself are in them. It's true though it doesn't run anymore. It ran for a long time though and regularly. <3

My mom dumped the guy from Galaxy Quest and is now dating a dude who was a body guard for Condoleezza Rice. So much fame through here.

My cousin's twitter account is nominated as one as one of the best twitter accounts in the country. There is a few days left in the voting but they have now turned off the thing where you can see who is winning. Booooooo!

when i was 14 or so, i had a school photography assignment where i had to paparazzi the toronto film festival. i just picked any night to go, and apparently the night i picked was an orlando bloom film. i arrived quite early, so by the time the actors started arriving, there was quite a crowd and i was pressed into this super tall metal grate by everyone else. as he passed the crowd, orlando bloom himself took my camera and tried to take selfies of us, but missed horribly so only his face was in the corner of one, and then there's another grainy one where he's not in it and i'm just uncomfortably smiling, wedged in between the fence bars. of course, i had no idea they didn't turn out until i had the film developed. my mark was like: met orlando bloom, A-. hah haaa. i still have the pictures somewhere.

I've rented "I'm a Cyborg" from the library twice. But I've never watched it.

I'm that interesting.

I was running an event at a fancy pants hotel in Hollywood last week. Working registration, but it was super slow. In comes this chick in approx 25 lbs of makeup and hair extension, 6" heels, and a doggie in her purse.

She proceeds to ask me "where the forking parking lot is"

She was totally one of the girls from Bad Girls Club. No, we didn't get in a fight.

(if you don't know what that show is, your brain thanks you)

Well!

You should actually watch it. It's quite sweet.

I rang up Debbie Harry, Fred Scheneider, Joe Jackson, and Lauren Bacall when I was a cashier. Back before Jane's Addiction was big Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro came into where I worked and invited me to the show that night (Iggy Pop).
