I actually can't tell if torque is being serious or not. (I am seriously disturbed by some of the photos on that bottle tree page. A few are lovely. The vast, vast majority squick me out.)

I think bottle trees are pretty cool, but I wonder how they'd stand up to snow and stuff. I saw a Dave chihuly show in the tower of David in Jerusalem once. All huge glass flora. It was amazingly beautiful.

hehe, i am serious not only about the bottle trees [which i find creepy and accordingly gorgeous] but also about him being my favorite redneck master gardener. I may have appeared on his radio show on occasion. [he is not my favorite redneck though, that's the botanist James Duke]

i mean, the old school african bottle trees are just awesome in the true sense of the word, but they are usually bottles hanging from trees [you can find them here in Brazil too in quilombos, or areas that escaped slaves fled to and built their own communities].
the ones that show gullah and african-american heritage [like this pic taken by eudora welty] are just as cool. i am a big bottle tree fan.

Definitely a blow up pool, hammock and fairy lights but leave room for a little pop up tent for me!

Oh, as for feral cats. you could put stuff in the pots that would make it hard for them to dig in and take a pee, like garden gnomes and forks with funny stuffs sticking up on em.

I know I would never pee with a garden gnome watching me.

I bet you could have a Webber charcoal grill out there. And for sure grow lots of herbs and tomatoes and put up that hammock!

You can even grow some vining plants in pots, so you could climb em up the wall and stuff. Can we see a picture? Its getting serious now.

Lycophyte, I don't suppose you could take a help-a-girl garden trip to bklyn? Call it a research project--we could put some native plants in?

Yeah! I'd love that...you still planning a special event for this summer?

(but seriously, I'm driving up to NH for my cousin's wedding in May so would love to swing by on my way up or down)

No...money is causing that to be pushed forward.
That would be awesome! You wouldn't even have to sleep in the hammock in the yard, we have a tiny spare room.

Oooh speaking of Reeds not Weeds, a big planter with bamboos growing in it would look pretty awesome, right?

So, I'll be heading up to NH early May (like the 3rd or 4th or something- check in on the 5th), whatchoo think about a day or two garden planning around that time?

I used to live in a place with a little concrete "yard" (with a view of the F train, no less... perhaps you've moved close to where I used to live!) and our neighbor basically used it as his personal dump for random debris. One time he set up a kiddie pool for his kids in the midst of the debris, so that was nice. Hopefully yours is in better shape and/or you don't have to share.

Anyway, if mine hadn't been gross, I totally would have started a container garden back there and put in a couple of lawn chairs for casual relaxing time.
