I'm pretty much a computer operations sort of guy. I run servers for people and do operational stuff.

I work for a company that does a lot of contract work, though, and lately we're working on applications for pilots. This means we need to test by, you know, taking iPads up in a plane and seeing how they work. We have a developer who is currently training as a pilot, so he can go fly around, and he's been taking his co-workers up to do the actual testing while he does the flying. Today it was my turn.

We took off from Watsonville airport at about 11:00 this morning and flew from there to Salinas, landed for long enough to turn around, and headed for Marina. A touch-and-go at Marina, and we were back in the air on the way back to Watsonville, taking a bit of time along the way to practice some S-curves at about 900 feet. It was a beautiful day, and since the software I was supposed to test basically crashed as soon as I started and I couldn't get it working properly again, I mostly got to look out the windows and take pictures.

I love being in the air! I've never been in a little plane though, so jealous.

I love that poem. Also, I love flying in airplanes. Beautiful shots.

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings!

That is one of the very few poems I have memorized. Uh, that is all.

so awesome!!! some of my favorite memories are from flying in a geriatric two-seater, back when i was fearless and immortal, counting moose in upstate New York. the pics remind me- there's something so different about the little plane. your photos are beautiful.

It's actually "I have slipped the squirrelly bonds of earth." That poem is about a guy who goes flying and he's like, "Finally, no squirrels!" and then he meets some flying squirrels and he's all, "Auuuggggghhh! Mondays!"

I enjoyed your squirrel-free pictures, slops!

Is that a Cessna 172? I can fly that! But I spent a lot more time in a 152.

Not sure what I was taking a picture of here.

There are definitely squirrels in some of those pictures. You might have to look closely, but they're there.

I'm sorry but if someone was training to be a pilot, I wouldn't be going in a plane with them. I'd prefer that they were a pilot :)

Yep, it's a 172SP, which I assume means it has superpowers. Here is the flight school/plane rental place's fleet: http://united-flight.com/our_fleet.php

Awwwyeah. I'm sure all ladies of childbearing age within several miles found themselves surprisingly pregnant as a result of that pose.
