I didn't either. Although my interest in piqued.

i was going to post a creepy tongue pic yesterday just to add some spice to this thread (so to speak) but got distracted. image searches for "creepy tongue" and "disgusting tongue" are most amusing, though.

I read one Ramona book, but when my mom found out about the "Jesus Beezus" I was forbade to read anymore (fundie upbringing!).

People seem to feel very strongly about them.

I know I had a couple of Ramona books when I was a kid, but for some reason I don't remember the stories, just the covers. I do have one memory that may be from a Ramona book (or may be from something else entirely) of a girl taking old tin cans and strings and fashioning her own romper stompers and walking down the street on them. And I think she was singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall and was afraid a neighbour would hear her and she would get in trouble for singing about beer. Anyone remember if that was from a Ramona book or not?

That was indeed a Ramona book; she made the tin can walkers with her neighbor Howie.

Thanks, pandacookie! I remember wanting to try to make some myself, but I never got around to it. Maybe I could try it this summer, with big coffee cans or something!

Anybody know how to get Beverly Cleary books in quantity? I guess I should just check thrift stores and whatnot, but I wish there was an e-box set I could get for my nook. Because I now must re-read ALL OF THEM.

Amelia Bedelia was awesome too, but nothing compares to Ramona.

I probably read the Ramona books... 35 years ago? And I still say Jeezus Beezus when I'm being silly.

I think I remember Ramona making slippers out of those stiff school bathroom paper towels for some reason.

I don't know from this Ramona, but we all made tin-can on strings shoes when I were a kid. And then reused them as telephones.

She threw her shoe at a dog that was in her path on the way to school and the dog took the shoe and went off. So she ended up at school with only one shoe and had to make one.

I don't remember all this info from 25 years ago. I re-read the Ramona books periodically. I never really noticed when I was younger, but the family really does struggle for money in the books, hence the mother buying tongue because it was cheaper at the grocer. They talk a lot about budgeting and worrying about bills and getting a new pink eraser at the beginning of one school year was a big treat for Ramona.

I know I read them all, and I remember that I LOVED them, but that's all I recall. Like you, it was about 35 years ago. I remember the pictures more than anything else. I liked her crazy ragamuffin hair.

I'm making the mistake of watching the video while eating breakfast. I don't want my breakfast anymore.

I saw a plastic grocery store bag tied to a park bench yesterday. It looked like it maybe had a half a bag of chips in it. It reminded me of this thread. I don't think it was whatever this thing is, but still, why would someone tie half a bag of chips inside a grocery bag to a park bench?

I used to be a dead ringer for Ramona:

Also, I wish getting people to be cordial to one another were as easy as nailing tongues to trees. Nevermind veganism, I'd buy a barrel of tongues.
