Here's what I want: a tofurkey/tofurkey-esque roast, a whole lot of mashed potatoes (po-tay-toes, boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew), some normal unadorned corn, and rolls. We don't need to get fancy with any of those four main ingredients. Call me picky, call me boring, but that's what I look forward to!

This thread is a safe space for boring people who want a nice, filling, predictable meal!

I love Tofurky roast. :D

No vegetables, though? I feel like it's not Thanksgiving without vegetables. Well...I just feel like it's not dinner without vegetables, no matter what day of the year it is.

I'm in! I like a basic Thanksgiving meal too. The idea of stuffed squash and nut loaf makes me queasy.

Brian, we're vegans, we have to put green things on our plate or we get forty licks.

We like simple also. We are doing the Tempeh Shepherdess Pie from Vcon with chickpeas instead of tempeh. We needed an easy, portable meal to take to a relative's house this year.

I'm bringing mac & cheese to an omni dinner, with a cooler in my car filled with things I can eat, just in case. I have, however, been known to exists solely on mac & cheeze and wine for days...

I'm not a simple girl but a couple years ago, I tried making cranberry sauce for the first time and ever since I make it every year. I don't know why my grandma always bought canned cranberry sauce. Cranberry sauce is my favorite part now.

canned cranberry sauce is just awesome it its own right, it has that smooth texture and you can plop the whole thing out the can and have this perfect can-shaped purple log, complete with ridge running around it. mmm. I like homemade, too, but it's really different.

This is so dirty coming from you, Fee.

Bergedy is coming down and we are going to heat up the deep fryer and get fat and greasy. If it can be fried, we are going to eat it.

I clicked, typed, and clicked again, and will pick my meal up at Whole Foods the day before Thanksgiving. Woo.

I will also possibly pick up extra mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy while I'm there, too.

I'm making stuff, but I'll leave that out of this thread. It's just dessert.

Thank you so much for this thread! I always felt weird because I absolutely despise sweet potatoes covered in marshmallows.

I'm looking forward to chickpea cutlets, punk rock chickpea gravy, roasted brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie. And having my parents pay for all the ingredients.

I'm so boring.

Pretty much my exact list, except I hate Torfurkey roasts so I usually make some sort of veg loaf. Oh and gotta have some butternut squash in there too.

Did we talk about this? I am with you. The marshmallow thing is strictly American, and it is also strictly gross! We don't molest our sweet potatoes like that in Canada.

I've never had this! Once my neighbor made some for us, but it was after I was vegetarian and didn't eat marshmallows. I think I'd be into a sweet pecan/cinnamon type topping or something, but definitely not a marshmallow one.

The first time I ever saw the sweet potato + marshmallow thing was like three years ago when one of my uncle's new wives brought it to thanksgiving. We didn't know what to make of it and it's never found it's way back since. I don't like sweet potatoes, though, so I'd never think of what shiitake I can put on them to make them more fun.
