Me and my sister still don't know what we are having. All we know is butternut squash soup with fried sage on top...which I'm excited about. I'm also going to whip up some nice cocktails. Maybe a roased pepper and eggplant salad. So what you're saying is that what I want is weird and strange and I have no place for safety in this world? Get the fork out!

Poultryesque seitan, sourdough stuffing with cranberries and pecans, wild mushroom gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans with almonds, copper pennies (cooked carrots with EB and brown sugar and a splash of rice vinegar), rolls, pumpkin cheezecake with rice whip, pecan bars...

I'd be happy with just a big bowl of stuffing and mashed potatoes drowning in gravy, like a thanksgiving bowl of cereal with the gravy as milk.

No. Dinner is at my nieces house and my brother is a jerk and his wife is crazy, the in laws are even weirder and it will be taken as insulting the cook-who for the record is a horrible cook. I'm trying to not have to announce I'm a vegetarian. Everyone will flip out, ask a bunch of stupid questions, try to force me to eat corn....which will lead to me flipping out. Then when the 3 year old won't eat they will blame me with my crazy not eating meat nonsense. For the record the 3 year old never eats anything. Can you tell I have been imagining how dinner will go....It will end with me showing the nieces mother in law a video of GG Allin-she copied my cats name so I think she should know where I got it from. Sorry I digress... Last year they made these finger link potatoes. They were horrible and blue but this year I would like them just cause of the no milk. I am just going to claim to be sick and drink a lot of wine, and smuggle in a Kind bar. This house will not have the diabetic coma inducing candied yams...My sister will-doesn't matter cause I won't eat them.

This what I want:
Tofurkey Stuffing (from a box would be fine!) Mashed potatoes Cranberry relish Smlove
I will get none of that. What I DO get is to wake up at 6 in the morning (I am on a night schedule normally, so this will be painful) to watch a blowhard general give a speech on morale. Worst Thanksgiving ever.

I am now officially obsessed by Stuffin.
And Invictus, next time you're in NJ, we will totally make you a Thanksgiving, stuffin and all (if Panders will share the recipe).

Next year, if I'm feeling adventurous, I'm pulling a pandacookie. This year blew. Pie failures, Whole Food failures yet again. I give up. If I can't make stuffins, which look maybe too difficult for me, I will only eat mashed potatoes and gravy. That's it.

Mrs. Face is still out if town, and just as I had started writing down the schedule to help me prepare the modest feast GlueGun and I would be having, monkeytoes texted me to say her T-giving plans had changed, and asking if we wanted to come to her place. I'm glad we did! GG and I had a great time, and we had a feast to remember! I want to give her a chance to post food porn before I say anything specific about the food.

I waaaaay overdid it, even after I ditched two recipes and changed the green bean casserole to just beans and mushrooms to save time.

My dad, who is rarely accomodating, left the bacon out of the potato/cranberry salad he made, and my brother and his girlfriend made a vegan pumpkin/chocolate bread pudding dessert. I brought some focaccia that I made this morning and my tofurkey was smoked on the bbq with applewood chips - I basted it with an impromptu baste of maple syrup, miso, tamari, olive oil, and a bit of the apricot ginger preserves that JohnP recently sent me. It was a pretty good Thanksgiving.
