Awful news. I am so sorry to hear about this. I didn't know her in person, but I think she lived loud and happy. With pup.

Oh no! This is so sad! I only knew her from her posts here on the PPK, but her posts made me laugh more than once.

That was a beautiful tribute, Isa. My condolences to everyone who loved her.

I think my first experience of calx was being torn a new one in the Parlor (on the old boards). But I got over it and saw that she was really funny and fair as a mod, and that she seemed like good people. I'm so sorry for everyone who knew her in person, as well as her family and Georgia.

My condolences and care to everyone who knew her and to her community, family, friends, and dog partner in crime. This is just so sad. Makes me think about this community here on the boards, and how she touched so many people here with her stories, interventions, mac n' cheese, and trademark snark. She is a force that will be missed here. I am inspired to read about her connection with her students--each one of them will go on the world with part of her in them, and that's a beautiful thing.

I keep trying to write things and then having them sound stupid and deleting them.

I only got to actually hang out with Calx in real life for a total of about a week, spread out over a couple of years and on opposite ends of the country. I first met her when I visited NYC, and she graciously offered her couch for me to stay on. She also picked me up from the airport, drove me to Target to buy underpants when my luggage got lost, and personally demo-ed the Amy Special for me at Food Swings.

She was a super smart, hilarious, no-bullshit lady, and I'm sad that the world has lost her. RIP.

My condolences to everyone, especially those who knew her in person. I never met her, but my dad was a high school math teacher in a large city and I felt a connection there. The spider bite thread was one of my all time favorites. She will be so missed.

I remember once she said she was thinking about moving to Santa Cruz, and I was super excited. We would have had double PPK Amy Power. Then I think Adam Crisis came and said that everyone in Santa Cruz was a methhead (not true!), and I think that talked her out of it. I missed my chance! I will miss all her awesome posts and humor, and beautiful pictures of Georgia.

She will be sadly missed and remain a fond memory in many people's hearts. Probably more than she knew, but I know those of you who had the honor of being her irl friend helped her have an inkling how much she was loved.

I am bawling my eyes out here and never even met Amy. I think it is testament to what a community you have built here, Isa, that so many of us who have never met such an awesome lady are so devastated by this loss. I am so sorry for you and her family and all that loved her and were loved by her.

And I will forever have nightmares about those spider-bites.

Thank you for sharing this with us Isa.

I only knew here in the PPK. She always made me laugh, think, and when neccesary she evoked such compassion that she touched my heart. I know that this is only forum on the Internet, however the positivity and thoughtfulness she embodied through her words was a beacon. A shining light in the darkness and negativity that brought hope and encouragement.

Isa, I cannot know your pain, you lost a friend, I can empathize. It is heartwarming to know that she was as awesome in the world of actuality and the lives she touched were empowered. I came back to see her on these boards, it is so odd how people you never have met have importance to you.

My heart goeas out to Amy "Calcuhater" Sims, her family, her friends, and Georgia.

There are a few people on this board that have wowed me with their intelligence and take-no-bullshit attitudes and calcuhater was one of them. Hugs to everyone for this loss.

I don't know what to say, this is so shocking and saddening. Amy's presence on the boards, and in life for those who knew her, will be so missed. I always really appreciated how no-nonsense and down-to-earth she was, whilst still being so compassionate and hilarious.

I really agree with what Monkeytoes and interrobang?! have said. Thank you, Isa, for helping to build a community where we get to meet such amazing people, even if only online sometimes. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I remember the thread where she adopted Georgia. She was so excited and took all of us on the whole journey with her, and it was amazing seeing the two of them come together. It always made me smile to catch up on that thread, because it reminded me that even the most bisque-y, tough-love vegan is still amazingly warm-hearted and special. There'll be a void left here for sure.

Rest in power, indeed.
