I'm in shock and am heartbroken. I only knew calcy through PPK but what a presence! Such a wise person, like an old soul with a ton of heart. Every time I looked and saw her online, I'd get such a thrill because something smart and sharp and FUNNY was about to happen. She could cut through the bullshiitake to get at what mattered like no one else. I'll miss her terribly.

My condolences to her family, friends and everyone who loved her.

Oh! And I wanted to mention one of my favorite Amy stories. I was IMing with her a few years ago and complaining about how much my period sucked. I think I wrote a long rant about it. So, she doesn't IM back right away and then later I find out that one of her students (a boy!) was using her computer at the time! Ha! I think she still kept in touch with him after he graduated, so she'd tell me whenever she saw him.

You must've posted that story on here because I remember that!

I didn't know Calcy in real life, but I will really miss her. I didn't know it was possible to be so hurt by losing someone you've never even met. She was like the mom of the boards who kept us all in check while making us love her at the time. The thread where she adopted Georgia is one of my favorite ppk moments ever. That picture she posted of her apartment with the water and food bowls waiting? That was just the best. You could just feel her doggy love radiating through the computer screen.

My heart is breaking for her real life friends, especially Isa, and Georgia and Mamahater of course.

Mermaid scale nailpolish and gas station Dr Pepper forever!

Another great thing about her is that she was always down to help talk me through any problems I was having and I could always count on her to give an honest answer. I really looked up to her in that way. She was totally comfortable saying what was on her mind.

This is another thing I should have mentioned. Though we lived a long ways apart, Amy really helped me get through some very tough times in my life. She was my near-constant gchat buddy for a long while, and talked and advised me through a lot of crepe that I was having trouble dealing with. I felt really very lucky to have had a friend who was a bit older and a lot wiser than me and who wasn't afraid to dish out the tough love. I truly think her influence helped me get through the tough times and grow into the person I am now - a person who's grown a lot and who I'm pretty happy to be.

Ugh, so upsetting. I'm so sorry to hear it. :(
I met calcy once in real life over dinner at Foodswings. Much of the conversation involved her insisting, in great detail, that we all need to watch The Human Centipede.

this is one of those times I wish the old boards were still around so we could revisit the Calcy threads.

I feel like everyone has something really meaningful to say in their own way, and I just wanted to try to add on the boards we shared, that I'm so sorry. The day changed when I saw the Instagram update about her passing. I'm glad she made, and will continue to have, such an impact on so many lives.

For people who would like to help, in lieu of flowers or food, we are asking that people send cold hard cash to help Amy's mom Liz with the cost of everything. They are collecting cards at the memorial on Wednesday, but I know that most of you can't make it. So if you'd like to help out, you can paypal the money to me and I will make one huge asparagus card to give to her mom. Leave a message in the paypal comments (twitter length, if possible) and I will include all of the messages in the card. I think her mom would LOVE to read the messages as well.

OK, paypal any amount to ppkshop@gmail.com with "Amy's mom" as the subject. I will post a pic of the card when it's finished. Thank you!!!

My deepest sympathies to all those who knew calcuhater. Such a tragic loss.

I didn't know her, other than through the boards(mostly the nail polish thread), but she seemed like such a smart, sassy, fun person.

My first impression of Calcy on the boards was that she was bisque-y, but then I met her in person and she's one of the nicest people I've ever met--just not afraid to hold back in keeping others in check, which is so hard to come by. I hope someone goes to Babycakes to eat some frosting in memory of her. Hugs to everyone.

This is so, so sad. I also never met her and I don't think we even had any direct personal interaction with each other, but I still feel like I knew her. She will be so missed here, I can only imagine how hard it will be for her family and close friends.

It breaks my heart to read this. It sounds like a lot of people in this world were better people for knowing her and that is a testament to a life well lived. My thoughts are with her family.

This is so so sad and shocking. Her presence will definitely be missed here and my heart goes out to everyone that knew her and is feeling the pain of her loss.

RIP Amy.

Pranjal and I met up last week and toasted to Amy's memory. I know how that lady loved her beer. I like to think she was raising her glass along with us, wherever she is. We love you, Amy!
