The new year is almost here. I'm so ready to retire 2014 and get on with '15. Who's with me?

I like to come up with mottos for each year. They work for me and help me define my goals and what I want to accomplish. I think 2015 is going to be Try Something New, which is scary for me. So I'm gonna start out in January with a Yoga class. I've done yoga but never taken a class. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone (i.e., slightly agoraphobic nature) and Try Something New. Also, I write but never had anything out in the public, not even a blog or twitter so I'm going to TSN and put something out there, either online or maybe in one of the free local papers. TSN!

Anyone want to come up with their own personal motto that gives definition to what you want to do or accomplish in the coming year?

Ooh, I like the idea of a motto instead of clearcut resolutions. Maybe mine will be somewhere along the lines of explore my boundaries? Like push myself to get a new job, challenge myself to be better at something or explore something that makes me mildly uncomfortable.

One of my best mottos was Divide And Conquer which was tremendous help in my life at the time. A great motto gives me a sense of direction of where I need to be moving towards. I feel like this coming year I need to be Out There more. Show Up. Less living in my head and more Being There in life.

I really like the motto idea too. 2015 is scaring me shiitake-less already. Work stress is out of control, its having a measurable effect on my health and is not going to get better in 2015 as I'm growing into a new role. I can't control the external stress necessarily but how I meet the stress is within my control, so my motto needs to be something like Stay Grounded and Control Stress Healthfully. Yoga is going to be a big part of my 2015, which I'm excited about and I think is already helping a bit?

Great mottos, everyone!

My motto in 2014 was to try things that challenged/frightened me. I re-learned how to ride a bike, went canoeing, and went on two backpacking trips. I'm not sure what my motto for 2015 should be...there are a few major life changes coming next year so probably something like 'roll with it.'

The motto thing is a supper cute idea. I think mine might have to be: "Make It Happen"

love the mottoes!!
last year was my TSN year, and I tell you, it was great fun. Pilates, for example, was something I never would have done without the nagging TSN, and it is awesome.

i think this year might be something about more mindful-ness. Everything seems to come back to it lately.
(ETA- motto: "Where is My Mind?" It comes along with a free theme song.)

This is a great idea!

I think Onward and Upward is going to be mine. After having a bunch of personal and professional setbacks a number of years ago, I'm now in a pretty good place emotionally and in most aspects of my life. What I need to do this year is find some direction in my career and start moving forward, and also start moving forward on some personal stuff as well, so this is the year I keep moving rather than stagnating. I also am racing in a higher category this year on my bike, so that fits with the theme as well.

I am so excited for 2015! I've been working on living in a certain city with a certain career for the last ten years, and it's looking like this year, it's all going to happen. I feel like I need to knock on some major wood when I say that, but I think this will be my Year of Being Confident, so I will assume everything will work out the way I want and deserve!

I love the Year Of Being Confident. I hope someday that'll be my year too. :)

I write down my motto on anything I can to keep reminding me of it. So make sure to keep it nearby. It's on every month of my calendar and in the notebooks where I keep up with what bills I'm paying and any place else that my eyes will be looking at. Staying aware of my motto and repeating it in my head or out loud has helped me a lot. Try Something New is going to be an interesting year.

I love this idea! Of course I have a list of specific projects/plans/goals, but I think the motto that underlies everything and will help me actually accomplish it is Be Mindful. Just being more aware of my thoughts and actions- not letting myself get mired in habitual negative thoughts, thinking before checking Facebook for the tenth time in a day, etc.

2015 is going to be a year of "sod it" - sod it and try martial arts, try pole dancing, sod it and train my bum off with the kettlebell, sod it and write songs about whatever I want to express.

When I was going through a rough time a few years ago, my personal motto was "fork it." I found it quite comforting and liberating.

This is great!

I have a ton of changes coming this year! I'm moving in with a friend and her husband (living in their office) in a new city for a few months before Mr. Fizz joins me up there, starting a new job completely outside my current realm, and basically leaving my comfort zone of miserable job and curmudgeonly attitude. I think my motto will be "Enjoy Change".

I may need more than one motto. I just read "you are only as good as the work you put in”. I need that for my diet and exercise commitment. I have to get a new driver's license in July and I don't want my picture to look like an updated prison photo of my last picture.

You are only as good as the work you put in. <-- I like that one.

I love this idea!

"Back to Basics". Back to me. Back to health. Back to focus. 2014 (and 2013) have been a couple years of immense change (not positive ones), toil, anxiety and depression. My goal for 2015 is to get back to myself and not let external stress distract me from that so much.

I like the idea of this, because it feels different from resolutions, which I'm not really a fan of. I get depressed around New Year's, so it's harder to get excited about a motto or about making changes, but maybe I can warm up to the idea. I've just felt lost for awhile, so maybe Getting Back On Track might be a good place to start? Or Less Judgment, since thinking about ways to get back on track is making me feel judgmental about myself. I'm turning 25 this year, so maybe something quarter-themed could be fun.

Everyone's mottos are so great! And from what I've learned about you guys, totally a great step for the next year. :) I think a shortened motto for me will be "Be Courageous"

Love this idea! I think mine will be "Taking it Back". This would be in reference to my food and exercise habits as well as work/life balance.

A couple years ago my motto was Do More Stuff, but in 2015 I am doing 12 different monthly challenges and not one overarching theme.

Love this!
2014 was designated to be "The Year of Fun", as I was hitting a huge milestone birthday and I wanted the entire year to be about having fun and doing new things. Well, 2014 turned into a total shiitake year with that damn dark cloud hanging over me, bringing one bad thing after another. So the 2015 will likely be the year of "Good Things Only, Please"
