hugs to all of you.

@ndpittman- shiitake like that is why most of my family is blocked on my facebook-- i'm sure I would have seen that too, along with some bullshiitake about how since my father died for the flag, i should be extra-vigilant about preserving America from skeevy immigrants (like my spouse and kid). shiitake like that is why I left- you have my sympathies.

Lol, "Hell is other people."

Pretty much my favorite quote ever. Sorry to nerd out on you.

That's not really what No Exit is about though. The reason hell is other people is not because of them, but because of the weight of their judgement and how other people can force self-examination. Which is still a simplification. But it isn't just that other people are annoying or torture to be around.

I love Sartre. Haven't read any in ages though, probably because Im too busy reading fluff. My brain only wants junk food these days.

I have applied for jobs in other states (I'm in CA) because there are no jobs here, and I think it's time for me to leave this town. One employer in PDX (a no-kill cat adoption place!) is interested in me, but I just realized last night that my landlord doesn't want me to move out Nov-Feb, so I'm stuck here. I can't sublet because after I move out, he's fixing it up.

So, yeah. I'm really forking disappointed. Portland for crying out loud! I've always wanted to live there. God dammit all to hell.

That honestly shouldn't stop you moving. Its mid December and with holidays etc you should be able to talk to the PDX place and just start at the end of Jan and leave one month at your Ca place on the table.

Good luck Walrus! I think you need a change bigtime and I am a huge fan of PDX.

Super trivial, buuuuuuut....

I was walking through the store to the time clock, when all of the sudden, I just shouted, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

The Christmas music had begun, and with it, the stress level in the store has quadrupled.

Is it January yet?

Which place? CAT? Oregon Cat?

It's possible you might just be charged a fee for breaking your lease that's less than rent until February. And there are couches available in PDX where you could crash for free. (Like mine.)

Yeah, I haven't actually read "No Exit," shamefully. I'm just a big fan of quotes. I collect them.

I also have seven cats to worry about, hence my additional hesitation. This whole thing is stressing me out!

I know there's probably going to be some grumbling about this, but ... I'd only move if it were for an animal job. Not necessarily working with animals, but working for them as well. There's no point in moving for an office job, because I can probably hold out for one of those in Chico. I have admin, banking, and animal experience.

Yeah they're great! I adopted Olive from them. A friend of a friend works there though I don't know enough to know about what it's like to work for them. I could inquire though.

Also I guess you probably couldn't crash on my couch with your seven cats...well...maybe that would be exciting actually.

If you find out anything, anything at all, please let me know! Send me a PM because I may not see a response in this thread.

My seven cats would love to keep you company. They're great.

Nine cats in my small apartment would be either very stressful or the biggest party ever. And I'll Facebook message my friend with the friend who works there right now!

But I think she just mainly does reception, so I'm not sure about other parts of the organization

I passed my ex-abuser in the street. I didn't recognize him until he was 2m away from me. All of my fight-or-flight feelings came at me at once and my knees almost gave out.

Oh, 8 ball! Hugs! Ill never forget the time I ran into my abusive ex. It was a few weeks after my no contact order had ended and two years since I left him. It only took one second to have every horrible feeling, memory, emotion rush back and months to feel half way normal again. I never went to a show in that town again despite my husband's band still playing there all the time. If you ever need to talk to someone about it feel free to PM me.

Thank you. It was years ago and today's experience was sort of surreal. He doesn't live in this city any more and I was walking with my partner and he was just there. The freaked out feeling didn't last for long gladly.

I'm glad the chances of you seeing him again are slim, that your partner was with you for support, and you were able to calm down relatively fast.

I'm sorry that your experience made all the memories rush back. I hope things like that are in the past for you.

Hey thanks! I'm hoping they'll respond to my email on Monday. If not, I'll contact my landlord and see what kind of deal I can land. But I haven't even been scheduled for an interview yet. SIGH

what *kind* of work/experience? receptionist? janitor? (admin is clear enough - safe to assume that kind of work for each of the others?)

I (and I'm sure others!) know people that know people that know people that work with animals in various capacities that can keep an eye out/put a good word in..
