This is probably what I will do. Our HR is outsourced (a consequence of the company being so small), so I will give them a call today. There's so much reportable shiitake that goes on there.

My bad Monday is turning into a bad week.

We got home yesterday to discover that the boiler wasn't working due to low pressure. An engineer came at 9.30pm to remedy it, but now the pressure is too high when the heating is on. It's less than five celsius outside.

Today I received a £50 gift voucher reward for a project that took me over a year to complete which will benefit the entire company and all of our stakeholders. I don't want to sound ungrateful so I'll put it in context - two other people that had some form of involvement in the project received £50 each that I nominated them for, but they didn't do even a quarter of the work that I did. It's left me feeling really undervalued.

Now I'm getting a migraine.

... and now the engineer has told us literally to 'live with it'.

I could cry.

My best friend had her first baby three days ago. First grandchild for her parents, first niece for her sisters. The family was so happy.

Today, her youngest sister (23 years old) died in a car accident, on we way to work. Her dog died in the accident also.

My friend is still in the hospital due to her c-section. She is so lost and helpless because she can't do anything or be with her family.

Her mom said to her "it's not fair. You get a daughter, mine gets taken away".

Wow, I can't even imagine that, Moon. I will keep them in my thoughts.

Holy crepe. I know her mom may be hurting but really?

Grief affects people in all sorts of ways, but ...... whoa.

I have been having such a hard time with things lately, I feel like I can't cope with anything. This has been a recurring problem in my adult life, but it just keeps getting worse, and it's interfering with my ability to function. I'm trying to book an appointment to see a shrink, but people covered by my insurance are only available from 8-4, which is during school hours, so I can't go. I am so frustrated and I just want to curl up under my desk and cry. I'm a mess.

I guess I have to point out the severe weirdness of the situation in that, my friend is still in the hospital with her baby, and it is the same hospital where her sister was thought after the accident. It was all very immediate and, I guess the unfairness of it all pretty starkly present. Plus her mom is pretty.... Over the top? She's a flamboyant lady who just says the words in her mouth, I don't think she's ever swallowed a comment in her life. They did have to drug her and move her from the room when she started insisting that they take her daughter home instead of leaving her in the hospital.

I can't believe this person that I've known for 14 years or just, gone. I remember when she was this knobby kneed, goofy, wild kid. It's all still so not real. And knowing the rest of them so well and knowing how they deal with things emotionally (especially mom) is just too much.

She was a good friend and I will miss our parties.

You are entitled to see a dr. Make an appt for 3 or 4, the get coverage for the last hour or two of your day. Your department may even cover it in house without an actual sub.

My dog is pissing on everything. The vet says he is perfectly healthy, and he gets an hour walk a day plus goes out every 2 hours or so during the day and sleeps with us so we can let him out if he needs. But still he sneaks off to the back of the kitchen and the dining room to urinate on things. I am so tired of the smell of rank old dog urine.

One of the people I'm closest to in the world probably has lymphoma and she's in another country with no family and no very close friends and she's totally terrified.

Ugh, so sorry strawby? I hope she's able to get back to family/friends soon.

My coworker, one of the kindest people I have ever met, lost his wife to cancer last night. They have two young kids. It's just heartbreaking.

Lost my wallet last night. Pretty sure i left it at the veg restaurant I got takeout from, but I called & they don't have it. Really hoping it turns up.

Thanks, she's flying back to Illinois where her family is (she lives in Mexico) tomorrow and has an appointment with an oncologist on Monday and will get getting a chunk taken out of her lymph node, hopefully she'll know what's up soon.

Sending good thoughts Srock. It sounds scary, and she is lucky to have you as a friend.

Being at work at all is not working for me today and I have a ridiculous amount of things to get done this week.

Why are hospitals so bloody cold? They give you a tissue paper blanket and tell you to "Make yourself comfortable." My teeth are chattering.

Apparently my brother got some bad news about his health yesterday. He's got a form of early onset arthritis that requires a lot of medical attention, and for many (mostly good) reasons, he doesn't really want me to know details. That's fair, but I do know that he had a doctor's visit yesterday and has new, more intensive medications than before, and he's really, really miserable right now.
This thing has taken so much from him over the past few years, and I'm sick of seeing him suffer. And I don't know how to help other than making dumb jokes and trying to cheer him up. And he could probably use some good thoughts, if that's your style.

Just found out that my sister-in-law who had a baby 3 weeks ago was involuntarily committed to the psychiatric ward. Apparently she went to the doc for a routine appointment and filled out a postpartum depression questionnaire and that was that. The baby was taken off by social services until my brother could get to him. Now apparently he won't eat because he has only ever been breastfed. The whole situation is terrible. They have two other kids who are apparently inconsolable as well. I hope my SIL can get the help she needs...I had no idea she was having problems. I feel really lousy that I didn't realize anything was going on. I was purposefully not calling her because I thought she probably needed rest and would call me when she wanted to chat. :(
