The doctor might have been extra dramatic to help ensure that he gets it. For some reason, people don't like getting colonoscopies! Actually, they aren't even that bad because they mostly use anesthesia for them these days, so you go in, sleep, and are out all in 4 hours or so, and you feel better than when you went in because the anesthesia makes you feel pretty relaxed and well rested.

Yeah, I know... and you're totally right. And thank you. And thank-you Tofulish.

Intellectually, I know he's low risk for Ca. And his symptoms aren't consistent with a bowel obstruction or Ca. But I remember my first week out of nursing school taking care of an 18-year-old with no risk factors who had had a heart attack... sometimes weird shiitake happens.

My husband actually ASKED for the scope, which was strange and a releif. We're going to take an appointment 2 hours out of the city to avoid a 4-month wait (and to avoid being scoped in the hospital we work in). The procedure itself doesn't scare me, or him for that matter: I assist with them from time to time in ICU, giving the drugs and monitoring patients... Mr.Hungry (works in ICU with me) sees them done from his desk. We don't use anaesthetic for out-patients, though.

Sending lots of good wishes for a complete recovery jojo!

AH, keep us posted! I hope it all goes uneventfully and that E is fine!

Sorry about your veins Rowan! Hope you get a quick stick next time. When I was trying to get pregnant, one lab could not get a needle in me for fertility bloodwork. The woman stabbed at my arms multiple times, and then got it in, but no blood came out. So they sent me out to get rehydrated and still couldn't get anything, so they sent me home. I then went to another lab and they pulled 15 vials of blood no problem.

Why oh why does my brain have to be wired wrong? I would like one of those nice, appropriately functioning brains. I done a few crazy things today because I was convinced I had done something wrong. The highlight of it all was me rummaging through a bin to recheck the packaging of medication (for the 5th time) that I had administered the right medication even though it had already been checked by someone else before I gave it! ARGH!

You probably already know this, but just in case: have you tried butterfly needles? They're usually used on kids but are also useful for grownups with tiny veins. Last time I had to get bloodwork done I was already an old pro at requesting the butterfly needles - but they also wound up getting the pediatric phlebotomist!!! She was aces and the fact that it was so quick and painless totally negated any embarrassment I might have had overhaving to get the kid's specialist to cater to my own teeny tiny veins.

Oh hugs to you daisychain! It sounds like you were being conscientious, but I get that it caused you anxiety, and I hope you can find some support soon! I do that kind of stuff too - my anxious mind turns over things so much, that I can't even leave the house without checking every single thing and sometimes I still drive back home to make sure the burners are off. Its not fun feeling so anxious and nervous, but then at least I haven't burned down the house yet!

I really want the twins I take care of to learn to talk already so they can just tell me what they want instead of having tantrums that last over an hour EVERY SINGLE DAY. I'm working 10 hour days every day this week and next week and I'm pretty sure for at least 70% of that time someone is screaming their head off and throwing legos at me.

Oh hugs to you daisychain! There isn't anything wrong with being conscientious!

I'm a bit too conscientious though. I went back a countless number of times to make sure I had things signed right. If it wasn't a task I would normally do it would be normal enough but administering injections is something I do every day, sometimes up to 6 times a day. There are times when I wake up during the night panicking that I didn't sign something right and first thing next morning I will go back and recheck it because I've managed to convince myself that I must have been checking it wrong the other times or checked the wrong thing.

I also managed to convince myself that I disposed of a needle and syringe in the normal waste bin instead of the sharps bin and went through the entire contents of the bin to make sure I hadn't even though I could remember putting it in the right place.

Got all emotional and clingy on the guy today. He ran out of his anti-depressants so hasn't been himself, and I'm feeling really sad about how he feels right now. He'll have more meds tomorrow, but in the meantime I worry about him - and he's not used to people caring for him. So he's shutting down; we're supposed to go out of town this weekend and I hope I haven't emotionally scared him off.

I have a rash on my hands/wrists that looks like a glove from wearing gloves to pull plants for a school project this weekend! I just saw a really nice nurse though who said it'll go away.... in up to 10 days.

I think I might have strep throat.

Also, I'm going to have to start looking at our budget again with the possibility that my husband, myself or both of us could be laid off soon. I think I am more likely but I rather be prepared than not. And even if we don't, I'm guessing a lot of people we know will be laid off if lay offs happen.

It sounds like they probably gave you the less than stellar review to avoid giving raises. Hopefully you are in the clear. They did say that you should be a model for all employees. Smart companies usually move those people around rather than losing them.

Fingers crossed for you. (on the strep thing too)

After weeks of not having any panic attacks, I had three things in a row today that each triggered a panic attack...so like, three separate panic attacks in one evening?!! and then when I was like finally okay enough to calm down and look at the internet, someone I was totally not expecting would do such a thing posts a really awful racist and transphobic comic on Facebook. fork everything.

I'm so frustrated with my family. My parents are both extremely depressed, mentally ill people and I am so emotionally drained every time I talk to them. On the phone tonight my mother just started ranting to me about what an jerk I am that I don't want to talk to her on weekends (it is a boundary I'm trying to set because they call whenever they want and expect me to drop everything to have long, tumultuous conversations. I need one day where I don't have to deal with that!). Then I expressed concern for my father's degrading mental health and when my mother asked what I thought was going to happen, I said I was afraid that he might start using alcohol again (when I saw them on Christmas he said he felt like he wanted to start drinking because he's depressed). She literally said "and would that be such a bad thing? if he just drinks a little and doesn't drive?". His alcoholism almost ripped my family apart, put me in physical danger as a child, and endangered countless innocents on the road. He had to go to rehab for months to get clean. That she would even say that makes me see red. When I got mad at my mom she started raging at me and I hung up on her. I'm so furious with both of them right now. My therapist has suggested my mother has borderline personality disorder, and boy does that seem to fit her every behavior. I try to keep that in mind when dealing with her but holy hell, people have to be held accountable for some of their shiitake behavior. WHARGARBLE!!!11!!1!1!!!

Ugh, CQ, that's awful. I'm sorry you had to deal with that on top of trying to manage panic attacks. Hugs.

I am so sorry couroupita, that sounds really hard. Setting up boundaries, only to have your parents test and test and test is really frustrating. Especially because no one knows how to push your buttons better than they do.

Big hugs CQ. I can't even imagine how hard it must have been for you. I wish I could make you tea and cookies.

Thanks for all of the get well wishes everyone. It's going a little better today, I managed to eat toast with hummus!

I was not impressed with the stupid hospital this time though, the person I spoke to on the phone made it sound like it was all going wrong and that I needed to get there asap and then they left me waiting for 2 1/2 hours only to tell me not to stress about it and to come back in three weeks. Douchebags!

CQ I'm really sorry about the panic attacks, I've been there and it sucks. I hope you're feeling okay today?
