My ex is moving out today and tomorrow and he is really getting on my nerves. He has hardly packed and should really have moved out months ago but went on holiday twice instead. I still love him like family (but not romantically) but my gods is he pissing me off. He has two friends round helping him pack and he's dawdling like you would not believe.

Also, it's weird having his things packed away. The house looks kind of bare. He kept saying he'd do in multiple trips and pick little bits up later, but as he can't drive and I can this means basically that I'll be driving him in and out of Bath a couple of times a week for the next month. I'd feel like an arsewhole if I said no, but I really don't want his crepe all over the place any longer.

Double also, it's my birthday today and I can think of better things to do that watch my increasingly irate ex mess the house up. He's sleeping in my bed this evening as well... URGH. I love him but I wish he would just bloody go. He said he would stay with friends but he's been here not packing instead.

Can you leave him to pack and just go out and have fun? Spending your birthday watching your ex move out slowly and inefficiently sounds very not fun. And if you don't want to drive him around, then don't do it! A failure of planning on his behalf shouldn't constitute an obligation on yours. You can offer what you're comfortable with and he can take it or leave it. Once you break up, your boundaries with one another should change, no?

^Heartily agreed. You broke up, and therefore, he is no longer your problem. He said he'd get his stuff out at a certain time? Great. That is HIS responsibility.

I know, I know, I know, and part of my getting annoyed is his assuming I know what's going on. He doesn't really know what's going on, so a fat lot of good that does. This will all be over in a few days.

You could tell/offer him that if he pays for renting a van, you'll drive his stuff over in one day?

I've been waiting 14 years to get to Yosemite, we got here today and now thanks to a whole lot of government stupidity that I don't really understand we have to leave in 48 hours because they're closing all of the parks.

Bigger perspective I do totally know that this is way worse for people who work for parks departments and other federal government things that'll be shut down and I'm sure there are people out there who've been planning trips here or to other shut down places for even longer than I have but, just, uuuuuugh.

Jojo, I think it's because of the federal government shutdown. They are closing down all "non-essential" services. I am really sorry you are affected by it. Yosemite sounds like such a great place!

Jojo, I am so sorry. I was thinking of you telling us how much you've wanted to go there for so many years. Hugs to you.

Yesterday evening I went to a talk about hunting and hunt sabbing (which here in the UK mostly involves fox hunting) and last night I had nightmares all night about foxes being hunted horribly and being totally unable to do anything about it.

Well, it happened at midnight. Congress cannot get its shiitake together, so I am being furloughed from my job along with 800, 000 other people. Not as bad as some things that could happen, but I am concerned about how I'm going to pay my bills. (My husband says he will help - he lives in Sweden, right now, will move here down the road) Anyhow,... I am sorry for those who have experienced losses recently.

Boo! Enjoy the 48 hours you have. I know the parkway in the south is probably closed today which is terrible at the height of the fall season.

Thanks. The procedure appears to have gone well and we're waiting to hear the results of the biopsy. If it is malignant, the good news is that it does not appear to have spread yet.

Guys, I need...I don't know. Ive been scarce lately because I've kind of felt like crepe and don't want to be a downer (though my students this year are AWESOME).

But, my aunt just got diagnosed with stage 2 cancer of the womb. I'm so scared and upset. My mom is holding together, but she is in an awful place too. She just lost her brother to cancer recently.

I haven't met my aunt since I was a little kid, but for the ast few years, we've chatted all the time on our iPads. She is the only relative I have a relationship with, and she is in London right now.

I just don't know what to do or feel. I'm just scared for her.

Oh, LW! I am so, so sorry. I wish there were something I could do! What is her prognosis? I'm sorry if that's wrong to ask, I just don't know much about cancer.

So far, instead of a beautiful run on a misty fall morning, here is my list of events as of 8AM:
-we both overslept and woke up at the time the school bus was supposed to come (quick run to drop off at school, i'm sure she forgot everything)
-hit a chipmunk on the way back from school
-broke the garage door opener (which to be fair is 27+ years old and was held together with a dowel and a hose clamp somehow but I know i will get shiitake for breaking it while the fam is away) and had to stop it from turning into a forking dalek and knocking the goddamn house down, which was what it seemed like it was about to do before i killed the damn thing
-aaaaaand I have 4 days of work to do today. Time to stop forking about on the interwebz and get down to business.

i can't wait to see what else this day has in store for me.

Are you rooming with my brothers-in-law?

Today was the worst in months. Kid got suspended, got into a fight with one of the above b-i-ls and just generally feeling isolated.
