I thought wearing denim on top and on bottom was called a cowboy's tuxedo.

My favorite is omnishambles, n. (informal): a situation that has been comprehensively mismanaged, characterized by a string of blunders and miscalculations.

It's perfect for where I work

I often use 'food baby'. I even name my food babies, according to what I ate to create said baby.

I may have issues.

Ha, I've heard it referred to as a "Canadian tuxedo."

Poor blondie. It's been around forever and is just now getting recognition. And having to share it with the upstart cake pop.

That's what I was gonna say! We wore 'em and called them that when I was in high school. Geez, Oxford.

Yes it is. I have a theory that manufacturers were desperate to get away from the image Babycham created for perry though.

And I had pixie cut in the 70s.

I have a cookbook from the 80s that has a blondie recipe. At home we called them butterscotch brownies.

Until this past week, I thought 'twerking' was something rather different...

Omnishambles! Hooray! One of Malcolm from 'The Thick of It's best outbursts (and OED's word of the year last year, if I remember correctly)

I honestly had no idea that "blondie" wasn't already in the dictionary.

Didn't Mia Farrow and Twiggy have pixie cuts back in the day? This is really late in coming to the dictionary. In the late 70s I had a cut called the Dorothy Hamill(sp?), after the figure skater, more of a bowl cut really.

I've never had a blondie, now that I know it's just a butterscotch brownie, I really want one.

I had not heard of twerking before Monday either - they described it on the news differently......so now I'm confused, but then again I don't really give a shiitake.

I really love 'omnishambles' a lot!! And the little linguistics fan in me is giddy over most of the neologisms here, but 'phablet' and 'pear cider' upset me. Perry! Is a thing! That has existed this whole time! Not to mention that I have seen 'pear cider' used to describe (apple) cider flavoured with pears - so if I'm drinking something just called 'pear cider,' is it a drink made from pears or with pears?

I may be getting a little worked up over this, haha...

Let this be a reminder to you all that dictionaries follow the language. Of course blondies have existed for a long time, the word and the thing. (My browser underlines "blondie," telling me it's not a word.) Likewise for plenty of other things on that list. You know who owns the language?
Spoiler: show
We do, us language users. Not dictionaries.

I think words should be in use at least 50 years prior to entering the dictionary... or something.

My understanding is that Perry is made with a particular type of pear. I would think if you're drinking pear cider, it's cider made from pears (just not Perry pears unless it's called Perry).

A lot of these are just phrases from two existing words. Do we really need to give those a separate definition to the individual words that make them? Also, I've been making blondies for 25 years, so the Oxford Online Dictionary can get bent.

But yeah, I like omnishambles. Great for when you want to say caramel cluster but can't/shouldn't swear.

Oh, omnishambles is definitely going to get a lot of use around my office.

I'll happily add my voice to those celebrating the arrival of 'omnishambles' to the OED, but as I've stated before elsewhere, the phrase 'girl crush' can go get to fork.

I had to facepalm at using a picture of Miley for twerking.
