I'm tired of my hair. I haven't really changed the cut/colour of it since I was 17. So folks, I have some questions: 1) could I pull off non-side bangs? 2) If I went some other colour than blonde, what would look best? 3) I was thinking of going shorter, choppier, lighter blonde with either purple streaks or ends or something. Stupid or awesome? 4) Vegan dirty mustards are delicious.

Purple and blonde would look pretty ace together! And I could totally see you rocking shorter hair.

I think bangs with a shattered bob would be great!

getting some srs length going! the only problem with my curly hair is that it seems like it takes a thousand years to grow because it just curls right up.

Fupapack i love love love your hair colors! I left my conditioner and shampoo in connecticut, and my hair is weirdly not reacting too poorly to the "use dr. bronners for everything" experience. is it going to get bad soon? I dunno, it's frizzy, but pretty normal levels of frizzy.

I'm cutting all mine off in January. I'm so tired of long hair but then summer comes and I'm tired of not being able to properly tie up short hair.

nah, boober, just get yourself some apple cider vinegar and plop a splash in a pint of water and use that as your conditioner if it starts getting unruly. *supercarrot, conditioner-free for over 5 years*

linanil, I love your hair color. The cut is pretty too. Does it always curl so nicely at the ends like that or is that just cause you had it up?

Me too. I blow dry about twice a year when I've washed and then realize I don't want to end up with icicles in my hair if I leave the house.

I have an appointment at the Aveda salon tomorrow. It's been at least 6 months since I've had my hair cut.
The thing is, I'm so unhappy with my hair now and I don't know what to do. I'm not emotionally strong enough right now for big change (that sounds dumb). I used to have the most gorgeous shampoo ad hair. Strangers used to stop me daily to gush about my hair. It was almost waist long, super thick, and really, really shiny. I hid behind all that hair for all the ears I was fat and felt like crepe. I'm still not past all that.
But, after 3 surgeries (anesthesia turned my hair to straw) and chronic anemia that I can't seem to shake, my hair is pretty thin, and I feel like I am losing more lately. I just wear it parted in the middle and straight, which is so boring. It's about middle back length now, which is probably about where I want it.
Any ideas what I can do to shake it up a bit without giving myself palpitations? I'd like to feel better about myself. I'm hopeless at styling--I just wash it and go to work and it air dries during my 90 minute commute.
I'm not sure about color or highlights. I'd love to, but probably really can't spend that much money and I'm not sure about the Aveda color. When my mom had it done there, it seemed to fade quickly, even with color safe shampoo that they recommended. Is that typical or just because she is blond and the highlights just faded in?
Ugh. Am I just going to leave with the same haircut I've had for the last 30 years?
