Yes, I can see how eating a soy nugget with BBQ sauce is exactly like slaughtering and eating a chicken.

Actually I'm going to go buy a fur coat tomorrow since I already have a fake fuzzy fur blanket.

Ugh I don't even understand why anyone would think this. Seems like there are no shortage of horrendously judgemental vegans anywhere but I don't understand at all how faux meat, which is cruelty-free and fine, is the same thing as killing an animal for your pleasure. They're just not even remotely the same. Even the most ethical of ethical vegans must concede that if a food is plant-based and vegan then... well... it's vegan and okay to eat.

It had something to do with the fact that if you eat something similar to an animal product then you are normalizing the eating of animals and therefore aren't vegan unless you give up things that are similar to animal products.

Or you're normalizing vegan food instead of making it seem like some weirdo fringe food.

I believe Michelle has the appropriate response to this one:

Yup, that is why I say beware of vegan facebook groups, most of them are crazy.

There was another FB group that wasn't bad really other than they didn't want to discuss food, you could only post pictures of food porn. I thought it was a really weird group but hey they weren't judging people at least.

This happens in the FB group for the local veg association here! Someone will post about trying a faux meat product they really liked, and some judgey person will comment something like "well I'm so vegan that I don't even like to eat anything that even resembles meat" or some stupid thing. It's like they try to one up all of the other vegans.

I wrote a post looking for a veg-friendly restaurant recommendation in an area of town I wasn't familiar with and I asked that it be not ALL-veg, because I'd be with a really picky omnivore that will want meat options. Instead of giving me recommendations a bunch of people were like "you need a new friend! you shouldn't hang out with people like that!"

Thanks, that's helpful.

I posted a poem that I really liked in high school and would think about from time to time, but gave a proper analysis for the first time today and realized how I understand it/how it applies to me in new ways. I wrote that it's amazing how pertinent it is for me 7 years later, and I just have a lot of feels because I've made connections that weren't there before. A woman in her 60s commented that she also remembered it from high school, but it was more than 40 years ago, and said 'Gosh you are young!' I responded that I am younger in years but am weathered by thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I'm 24, I understand that I am young in comparison but I am an old soul in many ways. I also look very young and have to deal with remarks about that all the time (plus the 'You'll appreciate it when you're 40' comments). I hate being called young. I hate that people think it's okay to draw attention to it. It makes me feel looked down on and incompetent. I'm just mad about being reminded about it after my post- I hadn't been posting much and feel like I was opening my soul to others for the first time in awhile, only to have someone imply that my grown up thoughts aren't valid and that I'm just a kid.

I need FB help!

How do I accept a friend (my two bosses) but be able to adjust my privacy settings so they barely see anything BEFORE accepting them. Is that a thing? They need to add me because I'm taking over social media but I still don't feel comfortable with them seeing my stuff.

i doubt they'd be sitting by the computer refreshing your page. it probably wouldn't even take a minute. i don't think it's possible to select their names before you accept their requests. (that would be a nice feature, though.)

I can't believe I honestly didn't think about that. Too much to on my mind this week! Oh well, I just added them and I don't really care too much about it.

I'm almost certain there is a way. You'd have to create a new custom audience that's set up with the restrictions you're comfortable with. When you accept their requests, I think you can chose to accept them into that restricted audience.

I wish I could detail it out for you but I dob't have access to Facebook right now. I'd bet their is information in the Facebook help section that would tell you how.

People who post about their sex lives, whether overtly or implicitly, especially when "wink" emoticons are involved. Just...no. {{{SHUDDER}}}

A girl who routinely posts pictures of her meat-laden plate just posted that article from like a year ago about the kitten almost dying from being fed a vegan diet, and all the commentors were just totally outraged and talking about how those people deserve to die, stupid vegans!, etc.

So hard not to go on a rant about how hypocritical it is to be so outraged about this ONE instance of abuse of an animal, simply because the animal in question is cute and doesn't taste good (as far as they know!).

Yeah, I know someone who reposted that as well; I resisted the urge to comment. And another friend shared photos of a truly magnificent tom turkey who she spotted outside her house early this morning; cue chorus of "Yummy," "He would look even better on a plate," etc. So hilarious! So original! Sometimes I honestly think people are the dumbest species on this planet.

that kitten article must be making the rounds as i saw it posted too. it was posted by a fb acquaintance who seems to really hate vegans. he's posted angry at vegans things before and even posted something once about "what do vegans think will happen to all the cows if we dont eat them" which blew my mind not because of the udder (ha) stupidness of that statement but because the stupidity came from him. he seems to be an otherwise intelligent person. he seems to be some sort of marine biologist so i assume he is pretty intelligent but when people post stuff like that it makes me want to give them an IQ test. he also posts stuff about saving sharks and other marine animals and how people are stupid who dont think global warming is a real thing so it's this weird cognitive dissonance of wanting to save the marine life but LETS EAT ALL THE LAND ANIMALS!

my weird fb thing du jour is yesterday i posted a picture of a sandwich i got at a cafe that had coconut bacon, avocado spread, pineapple relish and then i think lettuce, tomatoes, etc and someone was like "i just ate the exact same thing but in a salad" only there's was real bacon, lettuce, eggs, balsamic vinegar, and then bread and butter. so ok that is nothing like what i posted except both things have a form of bacon.
