today, a dozen messages from random people asking about my child's new "in a serious relationship" status. According to child, she wanted to state she is "in a serious relationship with snark" or something like that but she somehow got it stuck and now can't change it. Oh rilly.
(anxiously awaiting the next time she stays logged in on my machine so i can change it to "in a serious relationship with herself")

Ah, spammers. I get it, the facebook group in question would be the target audience you want to hawk what you're trying to sell. But when you try that and your message gets deleted, the appropriate response is NOT to essentially repost but change the wording slightly like so (paraphrasing):

I see that my earlier message was taken down. While I understand that may have been outside the guidelines of the board and I would have appreciated a message, that's fine. But I'm looking to sell thing X in area Y, and I would appreciate if anyone could point me to appropriate groups to do that.

Ok PPK, I'm at the venue and feeling sooo awkward. Webcam man has a good view of the stage but I think I'll be able to avoid looking at him while I'm playing. Will update later!

It went.....ok?

He seemed to be ok really. Socially awkward (so am I and most people I know), with him and his friend having pipes just to be able to gesticulate with them, but he was polite, supportive of all the bands and bought more merchandise than anyone else there (it was a pretty good turnout for a Wednesday.) I'm convinced he didn't remember or recognize me and I didn't embarrass him by saying anything about wanking.

I need to remember not to take random friend requests. I keep getting them from friends of one person in particular. And not a one of them is someone I would seek out on my own.

I stopped taking the requests, but I am still getting like two a week.

My cousin posted that picture of the operation on the fetus with spina bifida where the hand flops out and it looks like it's holding the doctor's finger, and it has some bs text about the baby's will to live, blah blah blah. Knowing that the story was bs, I made the effort to look it up on Snopes and started posting the link. Then I decided that it could've been much worse (like some anti-vax crepe or something), so I just left it alone.

okay, facebook, jeebus.

1) someone is being a needy douchenozzle and upset that i didn't write a 4 page instructional manual about how to deal with clients so he went online and shared a passive aggressive status about how some people (ahem) don't keep their word. i've already given dude the clients, grow a pair of ovaries and just be a grownup, mmmmkay?

2) "butthurt". Maybe i'm being a Sensitive Susie but jesus, i just don't think it's funny? Especially accompanied by pictures (lube containers with nasty things written on them), as a response to everyone and everything? Rape isn't funny, being gay isn't funny. When i fell roller skating and broke my tailbone, that was butthurt, and that was kinda funny, but that's never what anyone means. sometimes i can't even believe the things i see on the goddamn interwebz. Sensitive Susie is taking her ouchy butt and going to play somewhere else. ^humph^

3) more of these poopbuckets locking their profiles after posting something inflammatory. Really, people.

I just found out my grandpa died. On a facebook post from my aunt. At least my mom called me yesterday to tell me he wasn't doing well and that she was heading over there today.

i'm so sorry, kimba. i also thought it was bad form for some of my family members to post pretty much immediately on facebook too. granted, we were all there... with the exception of the grandkids (who were all under 13, and don't have facebooks), i suppose. but still. (if it wasn't an immediate post from your aunt, please don't feel angry at your mom for not calling you earlier. losing a parent is really tough, sometimes responsibilities can slip your mind.)

I'm very sorry for your losses, kimba and supercarrot. (And no, that's not a nice way to hear important news, especially sad news.)

Thanks, everyone. I don't feel angry at my mom (or my aunt either, really). I just... sometimes wish the world was different I guess and we didn't have to find things out that way. I'm hoping they at least called my mom first. I'm not going to tell my mom I found out that way (at least not soon) because she doesn't need anymore stress right now.

I keep getting messages that I don't know, like my friend keeps sending links to stuff I already know about and I don't know how to respond without seeming rude.

I tend to do stuff like "oh yeah I heard about this, good article" or something.

So, there was this girl I was friends with in high school who I distanced myself from after high school for a number of reasons. She wasn't a bad person, but I found her overwhelming and needy on a number of fronts. When I first joined facebook, I pre-emptively blocked her because I didn't really want to be found by her. I also used to be a lot more closed about who I wanted to be friends with on facebook in general (like I avoided pretty much everyone from high school and work). But since then, I've kind of loosened up and am friends with a bunch of people who I went to high school with. I had completely forgotten I had pre-emptively blocked S. but now I hear from another high school friend that S. has been desperately trying to find me on FB to no avail and that she (the person I am friends with) should say hi to me for her.

She's not stupid, so I guess that if she's figured out that I'm friends with other folks from high school but she can't find me, that I've blocked her. I can't decide if I should just unblock her and let her find me (my experience is that people who sometimes overwhelm me in person are just fine on FB) or leave things as they are. But it feels awkward now.
