Why are both hands transparent? Is it one ghost saying it to another?

My Memorial Day Facebook pet peeve: These is a difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. And no one on Facebook seems to realize that. And for no good reason, it drives. me. nuts.

That drives me up the wall, too. Last year my cousin wrote some sort of tribute to her father on Memorial Day. Her father is a veteran, but he is very much alive.

Yes! It creeps me out a little to be thanked etc on Memorial Day. I am very much alive, please do not memorialize me!

Yes, my husband has been tagged in past years in Memorial Day thank you related posts. Last year someone specifically wrote a post about how they knew they were celebrating the wrong holiday, but troops should be thanked every day of the year or somesuch so she was unapologetically going to continue. Which.. I mean, my husband gets to be alive for the other 364 days a year, maybe we could spend one day remembering just the people who died in war?

This year though he has to work anyway, though, so it's not going to feel like much of a holiday anyway.

There are a lot of dead animals on Facebook today. Someone posted a whole roasted pig and I couldn't help but comment about how disturbing some people might find that while scrolling through their news feed. Immediately regretted it though, because of course no one sympathizes. "Don't want to see it, hide it." Yeah, I did, but I can't unsee it.

Should I just let her go on thinking that posting that is NOT 100% EXACTLY what a passive-aggressive, non-verbal communication IS? And I kinda feel like "ignoring it" would entail not posting about it, but, hey, I'm no rocket scientist.

Maybe that was the joke?

Ugh! My new boss who I haven't even met in person yet just friended me on FB. I'm paralyzed! I know I could accept it and just block him from everything, but that's so obvious. I'm fine being friends with coworkers, but a boss who doesn't even really know me yet? NO! I think I'm just going to ignore it, because that's probably the more professional thing to do anyway. A former coworker ignored my request once and I totally didn't care. I only friended her because I was about to quit and I wanted to stay in touch.

I would probably just straight-up tell the person that it's a boundary for me not to be Facebook-friends with someone who's my boss, or someone I've only just met, or whatever the reason is. Awkward, sure, but also establishes that I have a boundary, which I have every right to have. Someone who can't be respectful about that is going to be a terrible boss anyway, and personally I would want to find that out early. Not saying you should necessarily interpret this as advice, but just what I would do myself.

Yeah, I worked with a guy at the restaurant that wouldn't accept managers' friend requests. He just told them that was his professional policy. And this was just a pizza joint. So I feel like it's totally justified in an actual professional setting as well.

I know people have different feelings about the military, and Memorial Day here, so whatever. And I don't know anything about this Congressman (was just randomly link-clicking), never heard of him in fact. But posting a photo showing you were in the military once upon a time is not "honoring" the day.

I joined a new facebook vegan group. I piped in on one topic debating/defending the vegan gray areas (about eating backyard chicken eggs) saying that it was useless/trolling and I was attacked. My point isn't to bring up any debate, but it occurred to me that I'd always been on the other side of those debates. I remember being annoyed at how the PPK stifles such things before, but now I'm the jaded one preferring not to fight over dumb issues that will just upset people.

I wonder what caused that change in me. Anyway, it looks like the PPK's stance against such conversations is useful. That group has lots of fighting now and some people erasing posts, dropping out, etc.

I left a vegan Facebook group because people started saying eating faux meat was the same as eating real meat, wearing faux leather was the same as wearing real leather and when I said that it wasn't very useful for people who are new to veganism, I was attacked and told obviously I want to wear leather and eat meat... or something.
