Can you report it? I don't know if spoof accounts are protected in some way, but if it's in any way defamatory then maybe twitter would take action? There is an infamous spoof twitter account of a local Kroger store here, and they actually had to change the name of it to a misspelling of Kroger because they got a C&D.

Ha. That makes me wonder if they could claim they weren't ACTUALLY using our name since they DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE APOSTROPHES correctly and it's wrong in their user name.

I don't use Twitter very much but there has to be a way to get it shut down before lots of people find it/draw attention to it. I've reported a few things on FB and they are always on it immediately. You definitely don't want to respond publicly because this ridiculous person is obviously only doing it for attention.

i know there is a mechanism on FB for shutting down spoof accounts if you own the business, i'd be surprised if FB had something twitter didn't.

I just went down a whole rabbit hole of clicky that ended at something like "Copyright infringement is a legal process that would have be carried out through the courts, etc"

I don't want to take this wahoo to court. I just want their twitter account suspended for being unfunny and the opposite of smart!

you could consider it harassment. i think twitter does that kind of thing in-house.

I am not a lawyer.

Parody accounts are protected on Twitter. If they're not impersonating the account they're parodying to the point of deception, and it's clear that they are a parody account, Twitter isn't going to shut it down. Even if it is close to impersonation, reporting them will just result in a temporary suspension until they make it clear that their account is a parody.

Unless they are posting harassing or threatening materials, Twitter probably isn't going to do anything. And they shouldn't. Parody can be criticism. Even if you (not you in particular, Hollie! a general 'you') don't like a parody, that doesn't give you the right to silence it. Trying to silence criticism often only draws more attention to it, re: the Streisand Effect.

I think the best you can do is ignore them and report when they start getting personal.

I didn't really think so. It's just super irritating.

Their twitter name is "The Real [my company]" but I don't think anyone would believe they were actually my company. At least I hope not.

We can spell over here.

You maybe could try to get your account verified as they do for famous people. I don't know what the criteria is, but since you have a pretender, it may be worth trying.

So my brother's friend just created a Facebook account for his 6 month old baby. Is this a thing? And if so, why is this a thing?

That is just....weird, and makes me super happy that I was born in a different decade then this one. Is it just to post photos or something?

I'm pretty sad about this.

Before the last election my brother went through a phase of posting right wing memes on Facebook and getting into arguments with people over them who'd give him stats and evidence to show that his posts were incorrect, then he'd flounce. He went pretty quiet for a while but today he's posted a really upsetting Britain First meme comparing a woman in a burka to a man in a full balaclava. I reported the meme to Facebook as being offensive.

I love my brother but I can't bear his bigotry.

Sooo, one of the people who is an admin for my work's FB page is a technologically-challenged Cool Dad* and also a bit of a creep and there was a bit of a kerfuffle last week because somehow he kept posting softcore porn ads and stuff like that on our page. It was all "explained" when it was discovered that it was because his Twitter was linked to FB. Yep, that explains everything.

*a Cool Dad is someone who slavishly works to earn the attention/approval of people half his age, while defiantly (and unsuccessfully) flipping middle-to-late-age the bird. Our office's Cool Dad wears a motorcycle jacket, has a ponytail, and Knows About kitten Riot.

Thankfully I've never seen anyone do that. Haven't they thought about the consequences of doing that? What child/teen is going to want to look at and appreciate what is guaranteed to be a horrifically cringeworthy account of their childhood which just happens to be online for anyone to find?

And sadly, that's the best case scenario! I had a very unpleasant experience when the angry former partner of the parent who'd set up a young child's FB page hacked it and started posting abusive (and obscene) comments on the walls of their ex's friends in the kid's name. Nasty stuff.

I do this. It's for two reasons: 1) otherwise, people tag pictures of your kid under your account. This is kind of annoying and weird and it makes me sad when I look for photos of someone (to see what they look like these days if we've been out of touch or whatever) and there are 80,000,000 photos of their kids and none of them. 2) So that the people really interested in my kids can see tons of photos of them and the rest of humanity can skip them.

Tungsten is on Facebook. What does that say about me?

Granted, he hasn't posted in a while.

It's totally a thing. An ex-coworker was quite butthurt that I didn't want to add her two-month-old daughter. I also didn't add her cat, dog, or birds, all of whom had their own FB pages.

I must not be as crazed a bird mama as I thought because Molly doesn't have her own FB. She does have her own YouTube channel though.

Swipe the comment to the left and the delete option should appear the side of the comment.

ETA you have to do this from the comment page, so click 'add a comment' first
