Maybe they saw a comment you made and thought you were interesting/smart/funny. I have made (only a few) FB friends because of exchanges like this. Sometimes we actually interact and sometimes we don't; in which case I unfriend them after a while. Then there are the people that still think Facebook is a numbers game.

Middle aged facebooker awkwardness...

I left a post on my dad's wall asking what time to be at his house for Christmas because I saw that he was online, and that way my siblings could get answers too, and he called within like 5 seconds instead of answering there.

I have a big pet peeve over people changing methods of communication to answer questions for no reason. I know sometimes you have a reason like if you can't talk but can text, or can't text but can call, but like once I texted my mom something I was doing and she responded by correcting my spelling in the text on my FB wall. What are you even doing, mom?!

I call people who text me because I don't want to pay for text messages.

I call people who text me because I hate typing out the words back.

ahh, i am guilty of changing modes of communication. i think of it in terms of urgency/saving time though, like, call>text>email/facebook. like if someone sends me a really vague text/fb message about something that needs to be addressed right away, i'll call them instead of messing with multiple messages.

Now that my phone treats FB messages basically like texts and I have Google Voice so I can be sitting at my computer typing a text on a real keyboard, and my phone barely functions as a phone, there is so little incentive to talk to anybody on the phone anymore.

yes! There's usually a reason for choosing a method of communication. I was still half asleep and eating breakfast, and it's a lot easier to type out words than make them come out of my mouth.

His reasoning, however, was that he types really slowly. Wellllllll...

On a different forum in the internet universe Old Man Catahone is complaining that the youngsters always type shiitake up on the Facebookery wall instead of just calling up on the phone like any sane human being would. Get off my wall!

I don't care about being called, but keep it uniform. Like if I call my boyfriend and ask him if he wants pizza for dinner, he should not answer me by posting "yes" on my wall. It gums up the works! Stop gumming up the works!

They just need everyone to know what a selfless, good person they are.
For sharing that image. On Facebook.

Not actually doing anything constructive.

Ignore, block, and move on. You don't need that in your life.

Some idiot posting that we shouldn't discuss what charity CEOs make, because its just a rumor. Um, no. Its publicly available info on every non-profits IRS Form 990. And he is still arguing that I am making it hard for UNICEF to raise funds with baseless rumors. http://www.charitywatch.org/hottopics/Top25.html

I can't even.

Someone added me on Facebook about 3 days ago. Today I noticed he has deleted me. Weird.

A few months back I basically called my cousin a racist moron on Facebook because of the stupidity she was posting..... non-nationals coming here taking all our jobs, non-nationals coming here as asylum seekers then living in big houses and claiming every benefit going. I then promptly deleted her because I would rather not have her cluttering my timeline with crepe. Don't worry..... she is an asparagus in person too and has been pretty damn insensitive about my relationship (or lack of) with my parents.

So yesterday I was walking back from lunch and crossing the main road. She beeped her car horn and shouted out her window to greet me as if we were long lost BFF's. I was mortified. Like it was seriously over the top. And totally awkward given the Facebook altercation.

one of my friends posted that she's on her way back to nyc after spending christmas in california, and two other friends promptly took over the comment thread to make plans for a post-holiday dinner party this weekend for just the four of us (we are thirteen of the fourteen comments on that post). we are terrible people.
