I really do not like this IAP trend. I'd rather just pay for the game.

100% agreed on this. I'd rather pay $1 or $2 or even $5 for a game upfront and then be able to play it without being accosted by ads or only offered boosts/lives in exchange for cash.

yeah, i read somewhere that they're bringing in over $600,000 a day, even though the app is free. that says a lot about how the game is designed.

Yeah, that's what that HuffPo article upthread says too, almost $700k/day. The whole IAP thing is also why PvZ2 is so, so, so horrible.

What's PvZ2?

Also, doesn't Joshua make apps?

I play hidden object games on my phone now so my time suck has just migrated to that

What hidden objects game?

i dont have my phone in front of me but i play two that are both put out by Disney (they have no Disney characters in them it just happens to be who put them out) they might be the first two that come up when you search for "hidden objects free" (on an iphone anyways)
i think one is called Gardens of Time and the other one is Mysteries something.
Blackwood and Belle Mysteries or something like that.

Yup.

When I finish my nail polish app, I'm going to add an IAP that makes people pay .99 to add new stuff after they have spent hours entering 800 polishes. It will peas most people off, but the few who pay will make me RICH <rubs hands together with glee>.

i don't see anything wrong with the way they're generating money.
from what i've seen so far (level 42), you don't have to pay to play. for me, this game has a leg up over other games that asks you pay just to download.

If you're playing via the app, you can just change the date on your phone, just remember to change it back. That's what I've been doing since I was on a roll the other day.

I've tried this and it didn't work. Not for the challenges between lands or for getting extra lives. Boo.

Do you remember to change it back to what it should be before you start playing?

I'm just annoyed that the app won't connect to FB anymore.

I was stuck on level 27 also, loads of guides and youtube videos out there, the free lives cheat helped me a lot!!! www.allcandycrush.com/get-free-lives/. I'm not willing to pay them so that I can pass a level, I refuse to do that!!

Reading this thread convinced me to uninstall. I've had the game a couple weeks, but I don't want to go through this forever. Not a rewarding use of my time.

I finally caught the Candy Crush bug! been playing on my Ipad for the last month of so.

I REFUSE to pay for anything and I am on level 86. The only 'cheat' I do is change the time on my iPad so that I don't have to wait (I think that is stupid anyways, so I don't consider it cheating). I don't bother changing the time back either. So it is like...January 20, 2014 right now on my Ipad

I am enjoying it actually. You can play the game without buying anything. I mean, it's not supposed to be easy. but it is so much sweeter when you beat a level on your own.

Plants vs Zombies. Sigh. I loved the first version SO MUCH! It was hands down my favorite application. The new one is super fun! until you get stuck, and literally can't go any farther until you buy stuff, which I REFUSE to do. Damn it. Just charge me $6 for the game, and don't do in-app purchases. I hate that.

I'm on level 213 and have paid them not a penny. I refuse.

I can't get the time change thing to work though.

Good to know. I've been playing about as long as you. I finally ended up putting the app right next to my settings app to make it easier to fudge with the dates. I don't care what date my iPad is, the calendar stopped syncing anyway.
