Hello all, I’m graduate student in Sociology, and I study food and social movements. For a project I’m doing this term I need to interview vegans. It’s a pretty quick and painless interview (about 15 minutes tops) that I can do through email/skype/phone whatever. I'm trying gather different people's motivations for becoming vegan and their ultimate goals through being vegan. This will hopefully shed some light on how cohesive the movement is (if at all) and what structures people are rebelling against (animal cruelty? exploitation? capitalism? etc).

I'm definitely interested! Can you tell us a little more about your project? What inspired you to choose veganism as your topic? Are you vegan/vegetarian yourself? What other books/websites/resources are you using as sources (or would you like us to recommend some)?

My goodness! You all are awesome! Thanks so much for the responses. I don't need too many responses yet because this is a "pilot study" that I'm hoping to expand after I finish this class. So I should have enough for now with the people who responded (but I'm always open to more people and variation if you're interested in a skype chat).
I decided to interview vegans for this project for a few reasons: 1 - I study globalization and its impact on how food is produced and consumed (I'm currently working on another project about local food) 2 - I've been vegan for about 6 years, but don't really know too many other vegans, so I was interested in finding out about people's different motivations and goals, and 3 - I think veganism is an interesting movement to study because there is so much variation within it.
I can't wait to expand the project and talk with more people. Thanks for everyone who responded, it's been great reading your answers and learning about your experiences. Now I know a great place to find helpful vegans!
