(I have only been bisque-y and highlighted the pertinent information when it was someone who does the ask-a-question-already-answered thing all the damn time.)

Oh, no worries! I realized that it IS a pretty bisque-y thing to do so I just wanted to make sure people knew I wasn't just doing it willy-nilly. :)

I've printed out the email and circled the pertinent info before, so I'm with you m-toes. I have my moments too (and also just to repeat non-readers.)

whenever i feel somewhat isolated about working at home, i just come and read this thread. especially the parts about the printer and copier, which somehow always ended up being my problem.

One of the managers came over to speak to me about sending out an email about a meeting happening Friday. I sent out an email to all staff telling them about the meeting. About 15 minutes later, the manager sent out an email saying pretty much the same thing my email said.

My manager robbed my pen two different days this week. The past two days I had to guard my pen with my life because it is my last one and I am sick of buying pens that end up being robbed.

I did manage to find one of them on our desk this afternoon though and moved it quickly to my handbag.

once someone stole my pen in a class where we had to pass around and attendance sheet, and the last student kept my pen and began taking notes. i went up and asked for it back and she gave me a dirty look! ...the nerve!

and to not derail... at one of my jobs i had to ask permission from my manager if i needed another pen/pencil/to use a sharpener/etc. is that common or did they think i was going to rob the supply closet?

I put my name on all my pens at work or they get stolen. They're the more expensive gel pens, too, so there's no way I'm supplying the whole lab with pens!

You wouldn't believe how much of my work day revolves around discussions about pens.

i've never had to submit a request to a pen czar, but i am familiar with the concept, thanks to sam simmons.

We have to bring our own pens to work and you have to guard them with your life. I always bring two biros in my left pocket and a laundry marker in my right. I try to keep the laundry pen a secret though so it doesn't get stolen.

I managed to wrangle a pen from the drug rep that called yesterday. It had "I love my job" on it. I've noticed said pen is already missing from my possession. I better find it in my handbag or else somebody will lose their life.

Your pen should read "I love my job. I am willing to murder my coworkers."

Sounds like a lot of folks in this thread need those pens.

Still harping on about biros..... The pen I managed to wrangle out of a drug rep last week (the one and only pen in her possession) disappeared within an hour of me getting it. My manager is off this week and I had to go searching for something in the locked press. While searching I found the pen tucked in to a folder she has that she takes to meetings.

Raging.

This means biro war and I WILL win. I WILL!!!!!

Have you folks with pen problems tried tying off a piece of string to your pen and then tying the other end to one of your belt loops? It's hard to lose something when it's attached to you! When I was enlisted, I knew a guy who had to tie his cellphone to himself.

Or you could have a pen pocket. When I needed a pen or a sharpie regularly, I kept them in my pocket. Now, I just keep them in my desk but I don't have anyone rifling through my desk at any time. If I did find someone digging through my desk, they'd have bigger problems than if I were concerned that they were taking my pen.

Or, just buy a big sack of cheap pens. Right here, http://www.amazon.com/BIC-Round-Medium- ... words=pens 60 pens for $6! Someone steals your pen? Who cares! You've got 59 more! Or go the other way with it and put a handful of pens on everyone's desk. Then you can have your own fancy pen and everyone else will use your cheap pens because they're free.

My company is pushing this leadership development program, so lots of people are signing up and one of the things they have to do is solicit "360 Feedback" from various people they work with. I have to give feedback to this guy who totally sucks. I just tried to fill out the survey but it's going to take me a loooooong time to figure out how to word everything appropriately. It's anonymous in that your name isn't attached to what you write, but you are supposed to provide examples, so obviously I'm going to give examples that happened to me and he'll know it's me! Ugh.

I will seriously consider the tying the pen to me option. I once tied a pen to a desk in a pharmacy because anytime I went in there there was never a pen no matter where I hid it. Everyone thought it was the best idea ever.

The cheap box of pens won't work. The secretaries have to keep their boxes of them locked away because so many get taken and those are the ones that they get from stores.

Why oh why aren't pants made with pockets these days? It would make my life a lot easier.

I use Harley Davidson Waterman fountain pens (they are shaped like a V-twin engine), one with south seas turquoise ink the other with either purple or green.

NOBODY touches my pens. Grrrrr! I will guard them ferociously.

I had a cool conversation with a student about my pens today. She was signing something and reached for my pen so I handed her another one (I'm so mean). She is from Pakistan and said that she mostly only used fountain pens there and she refilled them with a syringe. I still didn't let her use my pen though.

I kind of want a third fountain pen so I can experiment with some of the private reserve inks. If anybody has a recommendation for a good, inexpensive medium nib pen, I'd love it. I got my two on close out pretty cheap about 5-6 years ago.

lovely, lavawitch. I know my pen situation changed when I bought myself a really, really nice (pricey) one. I told myself that my ferocious guarding was a good strategy for surviving flu or stomach-virus season.

See, I have a nice pen, but I'm afraid to use it! I actually wish it were a rollerball, then I wouldn't be so worried about messing it up. I may just start tying stuff to myself for shiitakes and giggles though.

Also, I think I'm the annoying co-worker. I feel like I've been blowing my nose constantly. Every time I take out a tissue I cringe a little for the people around me. I really, really hope we don't move to an open concept office.
