Orange marmalade, banana, and mushrooms?
I guess one could eat banana with orange marmalade but I think it would be gross.

Aww, I love banana and orange marmelade together.

This is really so subjective.

You can get licorice and mango chocolate here, it's super delicious!

Wow. Maybe I'm unusual, but mango + chocolate isn't a good combination to me anyway, but with the addition of licorice, I just can' t even. Is chocolate + licorice a Nordic thing? I only ask because I remember my sister seeing lots of chocolate bars with licorice filling when she lived in Iceland. Chocolate + licorice is not really done here.

Re: mint and orange, apparently it's the sodium laurel sulfate, not the mint, in toothpaste that makes your orange juice taste horrible. I think the thing I read said the SLS deadens your sweet receptors and makes everything taste bitter (which is why really nothing tastes good after you brush your teeth).

Also, re: chocolate and Marmite - There's a chocolatier here that does a vegan Marmite truffle, and it's gorgeous.

That sounds plausible re: SLS. I've accidentally got shampoo in my mouth, and everything I ate for a while afterwards was similarly bitter.

Of course, this mean I have to go put some peppermint extract on my orange segments, and see what happens. I will report back....

I've seen lots of recipes that use cilantro and olives together.

Huh, I should've googled that. But I'm going to go on record as declaring it gross. If I've just offended all of Morocco as interpreted by Martha Stewart, so be it.

Nah, you could makes a yummy pudding with passionfruit and oatmeal. And you could maybe do a sort of oatmeal-breaded, deep-fried sauerkraut thing.

I think you've got a winning combination there. Unless some genius can make a delicious sauerkraut and seaweed dish, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I think I've actually had raw sauerkraut with seaweed in it. In fact I just googled it and seaweed in sauerkraut is definitely a thing that people do.

How about... sauerkraut, passionfruit and eggnog?!? Hahaha

I think you did it, corduroy. Passionfruit is such a strong, specific flavor - it would totally clash with both of those things.

Inspiration just struck again: marshmallows, bamboo shoots and kasha.

I would totally eat a desert with marshmallows and kasha. Actually, I don't think either bamboo or kasha have a super strong flavor, so I would eat them together, even though they're from totally different cuisines.

(I can't think of a good trio to contribute, I just popped in to shoot down other peoples' combinations.)

Blergh. That's pretty good-- I'm getting nauseous just thinking about trying to put those food together.

I'd eat soy sauce and dill pickles together... not, like, pickles dipped in soy sauce but maybe a soy sauce-based condiment on a sandwich with pickles in it. But I am kind of a salt fiend so feel free to take that with a grain of, um, salt.
