I think you underestimate australians, I would totally eat vegemite with oatmeal cookies.

Hey, I'm all about the vegemite, I go weak in the knees with my love of the mite, but....trying drinking a glass of tom ah to juice with that vegemite smeared Anzac biccie and you'll see my point.

A savory oatmeal cookie would be good with vegemite (Or marmite). I could imagine a bloody mary type cocktail with vegemite and tomato juice too!

Actually, a cocktail with some dissolved vegemite in tomato juice and pepper vodka or something like that might not be too bad as savory cocktails go.

Mint and orange flavours have to be the foundation of the trinity...but what to add?

vegan cheese?
baked potato?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I was eating Junior Mints as I read the thread, and had horrible flashbacks to many glasses of OJ too soon after brushing my teeth in the morning. But finding a third element is HARD. Especially because oranges can be used in so many sauces.

Oh yeah, mint and orange are bad together. But I wouldn't add something bland like a baked potato. That will go with either. For the third item just add something no one wants to eat, like nato.

an easy starting point would be OJ and mint. that never ever goes together. (oh god *shudder*)
so the third, uhh. squid? i guess this might be more difficult with an actual foodstuff. hmm. nooch? :-p

*edit* oh, i see it took me too long to formulate my post. :-) great minds think alike.

Even squid could be used in a stir-fry, for which orange would be an excellent sauce component.

What about dill pickle flavored potato chips as the third item?

This is a good time remember Torque's epic natto story. She almost made it sound good. Almost.

The lime jello is a good idea. Any of those 70s era jello salads should provide some good ideas.

ETA:

Dear god. Lime jello tuna salad with cheese.

After reading this yesterday, I thought of one while falling asleep last night: dark chocolate (why it has to be dark I don't know), mint chutney, and sauerkraut. (My alternative was to sub the mint chutney for grape jelly - I can't decide which is grosser.)

Lavawitch, kudos for dredging up some epic yuck with that midcentury meal thread...

staring with the duo of peppermint and orange juice, i think caramel coffee almond milk might be a good third. at least it sounds really gross to me.

oh! what about: peppermint, orange juice, and pickle relish?

do pickles and orange juice go together? i'm pretty sure they don't, but i have the least sophisticated palate on a person over the age of 7.

yeah, i think that's a winner! (as long as it's dill pickle and not sweet. i might be able to see someone making a case for sweet relish)

Sweet relish and orange or sweet relish and mint? Both strike me as bad ideas.

i was thinking orange might be not repulsive? like maybe if you made some sort of reduction sauce with it.
