I've watched them for a while and they're incredibly adorable, but how do I get rid of them? I have a cruelty-free trap in place with chocolate and peanut butter, but they're ignoring it, possibly because they know what it is. They're under the fridge right now. I know they came in through the space between the door and the floor, and I'm planning on narrowing the space by attaching a plank to the bottom of the door, but how do I make them leave?

Oh no! They sound cute but I'd be scared because they're quick. I guess fast moving objects frighten me. I honestly don't know what I'd do. Sorry, Bun :(
I hope your traps work, but they sound like smart little mice.

I'm not scared of them, but the corner of my room behind Bram's hutch is starting to smell like mouse urine, so I kinda want them to move someplace else, please!

I've never smelled it, but I'm guessing mouse urine is quite unpleasant.

Be gone, mice! Bun wants her pleasant-smelling abode back!

we have been struggling with mice in my house too this year. i never saw any last winter, but i have seen several already this year. my cat stalks them and catches them. she never physically hurts them, she just holds them down with her paws and scares them. once she paralyzes them with fear it's pretty easy for me to scoop them up in a cup & release them outside.

seal up any holes you think they may be getting in through (they can squeeze through ridiculously small spaces) and don't leave any food hanging out.

Name them! I vote for Squeaky and Binky.

I used to live in an apartment full of mice in law school because one of our roommates left food out in her room. Remove the foodsources and they'll move along.

They are squeaky, that's for sure! I can't competely remove the foodsources because Bram has to eat and I'm pretty sure they just invade his home and steal food from his bowl.

I was just thinking of the same thing. It's funny because literally yesterday I was doing a painting of a girl who has lambs sort of growing out of her vagina, and it looked a lot like that avatar.

No advice here...if you have to leave food for a pet, I guess that makes it harder! Who knows how they are getting in! Maybe call an expert to figure out their entrances...but that might be expensive. Is your place a rental? If it is, maybe you can get your landlord to pay for someone to investigate.

Yeah you're gonna want them outta there. Especially if it's a girl mouse and boy mouse, because mice are NOT known for abstinence or sterility. You can tell if it's a girl and boy mouse by looking to see if one has on a bow and the other is wearing a suit.

I know this worked for Adam when he had an office mouse last year. Worth a shot to at least set it up.

I want to adopt them. They can live in my hair. *

*Disclaimer: no mice were harmed in this suggestion.

Same, but I don't know if it's this or Tofulish's new avatar doing it.

This is the sort of wisdom we need to clear up all the confusion in the gender thread.

I did this when I had a young rat in my apartment and trapped him in. I opened up the window, and he left.

we found peanut butter worked well in traps, gobs of it- they only ever set them off at night. for sealing things up see if you can get expandable foam- it works!

especially if you mix the peanut butter with a little rum ... the alcohol slows them down. this was seriously the only thing that worked for us.

The saga continues! I pulled the fridge out from under my kitchenette, and voilà! They made a little nest in the back (thankfully there were no babies!) which I removed. I can hear some scuffling behind my desk on the other side of my room, and hope the ones trapped in here can find a way out. I'm going to buy some PUR foam and fill up any holes I can find.

Hurray for cruelty-free mouse removal! I used to catch my gerbil (may he rest in peace) by figuring out where he was in general and then creating a mega fort around it to narrow in until I got him. That only worked sometimes, though, and I imagine mice are much faster.

I tried that, haha. They are everywhere now that I took the fridge out! I just watched at least two of them walk around behind the headboard of my bed and locked one out in the hallway, but I can still hear squeaks coming from behind my kitchenette and the wooden board that's attached to the wall next to my desk (for some reason). I'm gettin' my PUR on this afternoon!

ETA: changed the title.

PUR foam won't help, at least not by itself. If the mice want in, they'll just chew through that, just like they are able to chew through cement.

I've worked in a store where they had to seal openings with steel sponges and cement in order to keep the mice out.

I would try something like steel sponges stuffed into the open spaces and then either fill that with some kind of filler. (caulking or plaster) (alabastine muurvuller / plamuur? and that doesn't spoil)

PUR can make quite a mess for what I've seen of it, and it hardens out so if you buy a tube the nozzle hardens out and you can't use what's left in the tube later on)
