That sucks Rowan, I'm really sorry. Your room mate sounds totally out of line. They could have been more mature about dealing with any issues they had by actually discussing it with you rather than just deciding on things. I find it strange as well because if you have got this far in the process it shows a degree of willingness and commitment that speaks volumes. On top of that having a dog is a wonderful thing and if anything contributes to your well being. The number of times in the past each one the doggies we have had in our family has got me through a rough patch just by being there to make me laugh or to look after is huge.

I hope the situation changes and in the future you can give another dog a home. At least this one is getting to go somewhere, it's just a shame it isn't you.

It sounds like she's rethinking having a dog in the house, but doesn't want to actually say that.

Even saying this would be more reasonable if that were the case...what a forked up thing to say to someone!

Tell her she needs to pass a psychiatric evaluation before judging your state of mind, like in B_A_Ds thread.

That sucks and I agree that your roommate was being really rude and judgmental. Fortunately, this dog will find another home and there are tons of other dogs out there who will benefit from your awesomeness and attention. But I'm really sorry- I know how it is to fall in love with an animal and not have it work out.

i mean, if you care and are responsible enough to go through all of that planning and preparing, you are definitely in some kind of "state" that allows you to care for a dog.

this is exactly what i was going to say. so sorry to hear about it. : ( also, your roommate is horribly inconsiderate - if this kind of thing is common with him or her, maybe you might want to consider new living arrangements...
