Backstory: I'm a plant/soil ecologist and I just got a(n amazing) job in Montana. Because of this I'm staying at a house on the property where I now work (while I look for a home here), which is where the bird people who work for the same place stake out while doing capture and release of raptors and eagles. I was about to head into town to do some stuff, but they caught not one but two bald eagles so I stuck around to see (and help because two eagles is kind of an ordeal). They brought them back to do measurements/take blood samples/band them for research purposes and I got to assist (kind of, like I said I'm a plant person) and hold one of the eagles (I also released it, which I have a picture of)

I wasn't scared, I guess it didn't occur to me to be? The people I was with really know their stuff and had been holding the eagles for about an hour (including taking their blood, which didn't even provoke a reaction). They were hooded, so they pretty much just hung out very calmly while being passed between people/hung upside down to be weighed. It's pretty amazing. The other eagle was much bigger (12 lbs!) and a little grumpy about the whole ordeal. The biggest threat is their claws, which is why I'm holding her by the legs, but all was good.

It was a pretty amazing experience, ha.

If you'd been there you could have! But she's out being happy in the wild now. They caught another today, I saw a herd of wild horses, and an elk ran out in front of my car. My life has taken a turn for the interesting, for sure.
