(Sorry about the weird mirror shot, but I wanted to see how it looks from both sides, and every time I face the camera straight on, I think my head looks oddly elongated. Not really used to the very short hair yet, I guess.)

A friend just came by my office and (a propos of nothing!) gave me this amazing rhinestone octopus brooch. For the first time in my life I'm in love with a piece of sparkly jewellery. Please excuse the manaical look, but I can't stop smiling.

You submit photos with job applications? That is considered very improper here.

It's very common outside of North America. When I was in charge of hiring at my work place, I sometimes received resumes with photos attached, normally from European or Filipino immigrants.

I receive resumes with photos all the time! Usually from foreign students. It always weirds me out. I had to submit one when I was considering ESL positions in Japan, too.

Canada is much different. I recently found out that it is illegal to ask for someone's gender or age in an interview. Not that I need to do these things, but since my establishment requires the worker to be over 19 since we serve and produce alcohol, it can be a slippery slope.
