Or am I the only one that gets excited about string theory and absolute zero? Ooh, and neuroscience.

Just wondering if I am as much of a freak as my friends say I am.

I'm a chemistry buff. My bosses ask me for help with physics and calculus though, which I'm also pretty good at. I like things like the Angel Problem and who doesn't like talking about Dark Matter, Microwave engines and duality of light? /pushes glasses up

Ooooh! Dark Matter is a bit over my head, but fascinating! I mean, what exactly is it? It's like it exists only mathematically (as in the discrepancies between what should be and what is), but is it there or not?

Glad to know I am not the only one.

Me! I'm on a bit of a cosmology-kick right now. Okay, I am always on a cosmology-kick, but I just watched Cosmos for the first time since I was a little kid so I am on a super-crazy-Cosmology-kick..

*Raises hand* I'm a physics Ph.D. student, so I love this stuff! I would like to research cosmology/astrophysics in the end.

Drop the magma and you just described my job! I'm the growth engineer at a silicon optics company.

I geek out over anything having to do with materials, and if I get to reference the periodic table, even better!

bazinga!

I am a Chemistry teacher training to also be a Physics teacher and all round Science nerd. I want to go back to university to study astrophysics, but need to get some mad maths skills first.

I want Periodic Table cookies!

I'm a self-professed armchair astrophysicist.

Science is SO COOL.

May all ye who are making fun of my magma fall into the fiery molten convective lava lake at Mt. Erebus.

I went to a vegan potluck on Thanksgiving and met a vegan astrophysicist. I was impressed.

lavawitch, I totally respect the lava. That was them who was making fun of it (points accusingly across the room). So tell me more about lava.

I love that Absolute Zero is unreachable, at least by thermodynamics alone. Scientist are trying to figure out what needs to happen in order to cool something down to 0K or −273.15C. It blows my mind that there could be a limit to cold. At some point the temperature hits a brick wall and cannot go lower, and no one really knows why. Scientist can get near absolute zero, and when they do, matter starts behaving freakishly because there is minimal entropy so there is minimal molecular motion.... That is so freaking cool!

I am but a lowly physics A level brat, but I thought it was because there is no such entity as 'cold' itself, just the absence of heat, and once you run out of available energy... Things stop working.

I would love to be told I'm wrong and there is something even cooler (hurr hurr) going on.

Sprog just bounced in here to ask me if I knew the atomic number of Silver, and how many elements could I recite in order. So I suspect she might be a future member of this party.

I think just that he was an astrophysicist, I never met one in real life. It sounds so awesome. I don't understand anything about it, but it seems fascinating.

Oh the periodic table...

I'm a chemistry grad student, so I tend to nerd out about things sometimes. My boyfriend is an electrical engineer doing material science now, so he brings in the nerd factor as well. You should have seen us at the science center last weekend...wow.
