Speaking of forking magnets - earth's magnetic field reversals! And we're due for one. Or maybe not. OR MAYBE.

If the Earth was the size of a pea, Pluto would be 16 kilometers away, and the size of a dot.

Boyfriend's mother is a little bit obsessed with this idea. She's continually telling us that it's going to start snowing here any minute, and we'd better get prepared.

But yeah, the thing about far-away-in-space things being in the past freaks me out too. I always wonder what would happen if we somehow saw life there, and then it turned out that they were all long dead. I would be sad for them.

The Hubble Deep Field http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Deep_Field blows my damn mind every time I look at the image. 3000 distinct galaxies! Each of them containing billions of stars! The whole thing is only two parts in a million of the whole sky! Brain explode!

Space is pretty forking awesome.

The babies thing always gets me. Especially with people who end up being horrible: Slobodan Milosevic was a baby.

And space isn't really simple, I guess, but even just looking at the night sky sometimes is enough to make me feel very, very trippy.

Sand. Like when you pick up a handful of sand and there's like a bajillion grains in your hand. But then how many grains of sand are on this beach? OMG, how many are in the WORLD?!

When I was a kid, we took a school trip to our local "Space and Sciences Centre". I learned this, at the tender age of seven or so, and I was absolutely consumed with worry for years. Years.

I guess a better way to say that is: Space is really forking big.

You just blew my mind.

Time is relative, folks.

For those of you who keep saying magnets blow your minds:

It's really quite simple http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxszvrUeluE

Just magnets!

Right now, while you're sitting here PPKing, from head to toe, cells in your body are dividing. Some are dying and new ones are being created. Millions of 'em. There's all this activity going on and you can't even feel it.

Vision. Like, the ability to see.
The fact that your retina is a tiny hunk of brain that has migrated to the back of your eye via thousands and thousands of years of evolution.
Photons.

The mantis shrimp that has 10 cones in its eye whereas we only have 3 and because of that it can see so many more colors than us.

The ocean floor blows my mind and creeps me out. There are creatures on this earth that we don't know exist...and many of them are probably in the water. Plus underwater is creepy. Then, whales are forking huge!

Also, the fact that dinosaurs existed. Like huge forking T-Rexes roaming the earth and shiitake.

My mind was blown when I saw the skeleton of T-Rex at OMSI. It's arms are so flipping tiny. They couldn't have been useful at all. I am still amazed by that.

The fact that all living things on earth are related. We share ~30% of our DNA with trees, for Pete's sake.

And mushrooms are more closely related to us than they are to plants!

It blows my mind how the moon influences menstrual cycles. I literally just had a discussion about it in real life, and I thought it was the most interesting talk EVER. (Mostly because the other person wasn't saying anything.)
