This has long been my favourite restaurant in Portland, way back from when it started as an afterhours place in the coffee shop on SE 11th. I've been coming here for 9 years. But, lately, I'm confused--the food seems to be going downhill. We went for brunch today. The menu is vastly different--no more Benedict, no more scrambles. And the quality of what we got wasn't great. The past few times I've been for dinner, the food has been fine, but not astonishing like it used to be. They used to have menus that rotated and reflected the changing seasons; now it seems like they've standardized it. Remember when the gnocchi used to be perfectly pan-fried crisp on the bottom? Now they are much more mushy on a regular basis.
None of the usual servers seem to be there anymore, either.
Is there a story? Is this a phase? I have always loved this business and want to support them, but something seems to be going on, and I'd love to know more.
