My parents are visiting for an entire week, most of which we'll be eating out for. I don't think they're quite ready for an all vegan restaurant but I want to take them places that show them that I eat more than salads. They're from the midwest and not very adventurous about they're food, they think thai and indian food is exotic.

Though it is all vegan, so maybe not what you want, I know when I wanted to impress my parents I took them too Portobello. They are the kind of people though that like a fancy place, so, it really does depend on who they are. Maybe if they are laid back, want-to-drink-a-beer type... Mash Tun?

Vita Cafe. Hungry Tiger Too, if you think they can handle the atmosphere : ) Pizza: Bella Faccia, Hot Lips, Mississippi Pizza, Pizza a Go Go, maybe Sizzle Pie I think Portobello would be worth a shot if you want to impress them with vegan food. Taqueria Los Gorditos for casual Mexican

Thanks! These are good ideas. I took my parents to Blossoming Lotus a year ago when they visited and I think they liked it but it wasn't really on their list of places to go back to.... I think I will take them to Portobello this time. I think Vita Cafe and Mash Tun (which I have never been to) are great suggestions. I also took them to dove vivi last time which I personally LOVE and could eat once a week and once again they liked it but weren't wild about it like I am.

Maybe The Farm Cafe or Wild Abandon? Especially if the parents are paying!

Yeah, The Farm is so Portland and I would love if someone picked up the tab for me there! You'll know upon walking in if it's too dark for them.
Lebanese could be good, too.

Now that I have been to Mash Tun, I am going to second it. In fact, I am planning to take my parents there!

My mom loves going to any of the McMenamin's restaurants/pubs, she also loooves Burgerville. Though neither of these places have awesome vegan food, I like that they're local establishments and Kennedy School is interesting place. The parents like that kind of thing. Also, I'll eat fries anywhere...

McMenamin's fries are the best! My parents like Kennedy School a lot too. I heard they've added some good vegan burger choice/choices? Maybe I'm mistaken.
