Hey y'all! As you know, Hurricane Sandy has created a path of destruction across the North East. While the US starts to react and organize relief efforts, I really wanted to do something here to help out the animals affected by the storm.

Here's what I'm thinking... a vegan cupcake cook-off fundraiser! Who doesn't love friendly competition, vegan outreach, and hellooo, cupcakes?! Here's how it works (or at least, this is how I've done it in the past): We ask everyone we know in town to participate by baking two dozen cupcakes or 48 smaller cupcakes (or more), and we ask for donations from the public to participate in judging. Each participant samples out 1/4 cupcake or one smaller cupcake to the public, and we vote at the end of the event for the winners.

I'm new to Portland, so I'm not sure of a venue yet, but the pod I work in, Nargila Gardens, right off Alberta, could host it if we can't get a place inside.

Please let me know if you're interested, and we can start planning together.

If the idea of lots of vegan cupcakes in one place doesn't motivate you, please read this moving piece on the feral cats in NYC by Jasmin from Our Hen House: http://bit.ly/T2hiHE.

my gratitude,
Tommasina

I would be interesting in attending and helping spread the word but if the event is happening in the next 2 months I wouldn't be able to help with the planning or baking. But please keep me updated!

Cool!

You may want to post on the Vegan Iron Chef facebook page to get more local volunteers, I can imagine folks who volunteer/support VIC in PDX would love to help: http://www.facebook.com/veganironchef

Sorry I'm too busy to help with planning. But if you're able to organize it, Northwest VEG would be happy to help you promote it.

Hi everyone,
So sorry for not seeing your replies earlier. Thanks Panda, JdFunks, and Jill for your offers! I'll post on the VIC page, and make sure I reach out to NW Veg for support once the date is set.

Could any of you make a quick brainstorming meeting this Saturday? I'm free all day. I'd love for whoever can, to come share ideas about where and who to reach out to since I'm still getting to know the community. Let me know what you think :)

Thanks!

Tommasina
