Yeah, and I would say there are a fair few in inner SE PDX along the waterfront too. They really are scattered around.

Okay, I put my name in the hat this morning. Wish me luck. If it goes through the PDX wookie population will increase by 4 at the end of 2011 or Jan 2012, which isn't that far away.

We will likely need child care. We would pay you. Some of you offered. Does that still stand?

Send me a message if you end up moving and we can talk! My life is pretty up in the air at the moment but I'll have a better idea by then.

Muffin, didn't you make a thread about how you wanted to do childcare-ish things too?

I hope you get it Jewwy. I would totally go to your house and help you set up your sick garden.

I made one about doing odd jobs and childcare fits the bill (though I haven't done babysitting since high school) as long as it's not 9-5 everyday which might be what she wants...there are probably more qualified people for a regular gig like that.

How long before you know if you got it, Jewbacca?

I have no idea. The interviewing/offer/hiring/transferring process is lengthy. Administration wants the distro center to be up and running 90 days from labor day. That may or may not happen. I'll take it as a good sign if I get an interview. So far, I have heard nothing, but I just sent them my materials.

I just received an E-mail from HR...I'm on to the next phase and need to answer a few questions. Good sign? Who knows.

Ick. I hate talking about this--IF something happens, I will likely be moving to PDX with kids and no Mr. J. I've been doing some research on child care, rent, and food assistance because I'm pretty sure I'll qualify. Does anyone know how that works if someone is moving from one state to the other?

Does that mean that Mr. J will follow later, live long distance, or will there be no more Mr. J?

I'm not sure how it works but I'd imagine that you can get the process starting as soon as you know for certain that you'd be doing it.

I honestly don't know what will happen with me and Mr. J. If I'm offered a position in PDX I would be an idiot to not take it and I would come with the kids.

I'm getting ready to answer my phase 2 questions for the job right now...

Oh my god!!! Good luck!!

As for everything else, I hope things work themselves out, or at least make it a little easier on you. I can't speak on assistance or childcare, but I will gladly help you out if I can, moving or getting around wise.

I now have an address of the warehouse:
18201 ne portal way (by the Portland Troutdale Airport)

Where would my best bet be for apartment hunting? Looking at prices for 3br that will allow a med. sized dog (weighs 50#) Just looking at prices. Nothing set in stone just yet.

If you can afford it, I would say go with an apartment rental company, since you're moving from out of town and with kids. They will ideally skim out some of the craigslist sketch-factor. Good luck!!

I agree with Jess! And I would say try to do a 6 month lease or month to month so you can look around for a better fit once you're here. I don't know the Gresham area at all, but I've had a few friends live out there and I know that house rentals are significantly less than in Portland.

I was thinking Gresham would be my best bet. The place doesn't even have to be particularly fancy, just safe for me, the kids, and the ladymutt.

Another option that might work is for me to find a place just for me to rent. I'd even be happy sharing an apartment or renting a room in a boarding house. Vin has mentioned that it might be more practical to keep the kids and wait until the house sells than for me to take the kids. I don't know. I'm open to possibilities.
