That depends - how high is your tolerance for large crowds and hippie art? Actually, it might be worth spending an hour there, if only for some people watching. And there are some vendors who are selling some cool things. Personally, I would check out the farmers market instead, but I am biased because I prefer kale and tomatoes to velvet hats and candle holders made out of wooden spoons.

i dont like big crowds but i can handle them. hippie art could be fun to look at. maybe i could find some artsy souvenirs.
normally i would prefer the farmers market as well but since we will be on vacation in a city full of veggie restaurants i wont be in need of produce.......now if i could smuggle some home......

I think the Portland farmers market is definitely worth a stroll if you have time. There's fun stuff like amazing local vinegar, wine, cider, jam, kimchi that you could buy and take home, absolutely. Plus, Homegrown Smoker is around the corner...
The Saturday Market is cool, but if faced with one or the other, I'd go farmers market. If you do go with the Saturday Market, Stumptown, VooDoo and Ground Kontrol are all nearby, too.
