Hi All.

I'm Eden. I'm a 26 year old New Yorker who is blissfully moving to Portland in July. I've had to postpone the move a few times and it's making me sad so I thought I would get to know some of you lovely ppk'ers from pdx. I know I will have a bazillion questions about life in Portland. (I don't drive and am really really really used to a ridiculous amount of public transit options. Are the busses good? Is that a really annoying question?)

Other things about me...
I am moving from New York to Portland to pursue an acting career. Sound counterintuitive? Really, it's just awesome, or so I keep yelling from various rafters.

I will read your tarot cards. I'm trained as a doula and am really interested in participating in the childbirth community in Portland. I love marathoning tv shows on DVD... I really want to get a kitty when I move. I'm also currently going off sugar... day four and I don't want to kill everyone around me anymore, so progress.

Ok... that's me! Would love to hear from you guys.

xoxo
Eden

As a born as raised Oregonian who now is a Philadelphian, good luck! Sounds like you'll fit in to the "keep Portland Weird" scene. Also, the public transportation in Portland is a dream compared to NYC!

I don't live in Portland now (we moved a couple hours south, but still in OR!), and I wasn't there long enough to really experience much, because I was Always Working Trying to Survive. And I wasn't at all interested in being vegetarian at the time, let alone vegan.

I rode the bus once with my husband to the airport and it was a pleasant experience as far as public transit goes.

Also, the birth junkie in me is WAY too excited to hear you say you're a doula. Oregon seems like a good place for doulas. :-)

Hi! The public transit here is fantastic. Other cities seriously use it as a model. It's certainly not perfect and doesn't run as late as NYC, but if you live on a popular bus line, you should be set. It's not cheap, but I'd recommend getting at least a monthly pass. http://www.trimet.org/fares/index.htm

The theater scene is...growing, but obviously going to be smaller than NYC. There definitely seems to be a decent amount of independent groups for a small city, though.

Bring us bagels!

Also, if you pick a good place, it's pretty possible to just walk to everywhere you need. Great walking city. And yeah, doulas do great here. I have a friend who is one and it seems like there is demand.

I am just a couple of hours south. But I work in the childbirth community and I can tell you PDX has a very strong homebirth and natural birth community. PM me if you would like more details.

I'm a bit south these days but I go to Portland every other weekend! I moved there from Chicago three years ago and although I considered leaving at one point, I'm in lovegon!

Have a great move and when you land, a collective vegan brunch is clearly in order!
