Beyond meat is now available from the deli section (chicken curry salad) of Whole Foods. The texture, was amazing...moist and toothsome without the gummy and mushy feel of most fake chicken. I give beyond meat an 8.5. For calibration: gardein cutlets are a 5.

So it's only available in the salad, not as an item I can buy and cook at home?
Very excited to try this!!

Yes...just deli items. According to beyond meat's twitter feed WF is set to release more dishes with beyond meat. The twitter posts also suggest that their unprepared "chicken" is going to be released soon.

I had the curried chicken salad at the Whole Foods on Burnside today. It was really good. I think the texture is only marginally better than Gardein, but also doesn't come in crispy tender form. So call me when that happens!
Oh, and I had a chicken salad at the Whole Foods in Oakland last week which I didn't like. There was a weird aftertaste, almost like a tiny bit stale. My fiancee got BBQ chicken from a place called Roots in DC/Maryland somewhere today that he was raving about.
Basically, it's all about the preparation. I'm excited for them to release the uncooked stuff so I can cook it how I want.

I had some from a Whole Foods here. I liked it, but think the hype is too much.

I'm excited that it's gluten-free but not excited enough to go to the Laurelhurst or Hollywood Whole Foods for deli items I would never buy normally.

This is the OP (internet persona merge). I tried an expensive experiment: I bought some curry salad, rinsed the chicken chunks, and marinated them in soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, mirin, and chili. I then stir-fried them until very well-browned in peanut oil with a dash of sesame oil. Verdict: freakishly realistic. I believe this product will have an impact on omni eating habits. I am also eagerly awaiting the fake meat from Pat Brown: http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2012/ ... s-research

I've tried to by it in plain from the deli from two different whole foods, but it was a no go both times.

It's only available commercially at the moment, exclusive to Whole Foods. Retail will roll out soon-ish and be available to all who order.

Yeah, I know. I mean, I tried to get several employees to violate company policy and sell it to me. I got pretty close one time!

I agree that it's all about prep. I had a wrap at the whole foods in the Pearl and the whole thing just tasted like vegenaise. Kind of a bummer.

FYI, Food Fight has (had?) a limited supply of 5lb commercially-packaged BM (unfortunate acronym?) for $30. That's $10+ less than buying the equivalent amount of Gardein! Ask at the counter if you go in; they have it in back.

Had a terrible experience with them from the Whole Foods in Tigard about 2 weeks ago. The things were as hard, was like eating the rubber sole of a shoe. Contacted Beyond and asked if that was what they were supposed to taste like and they said absolutely not and sent me a package of unprepared meats. I got a few plain and a few salt and pepper, shipped right from the factory on dry ice.
I did a Korean galbi marinade on them and was blown away, they were awesome! So much better than whatever they were serving in Tigard. Hopefully they've destroyed that batch. There is an interesting earthiness in them that brought back memories of the real thing. I liked the texture and thing they'd be good for fooling non-vegan guests.
I read they were preparing to release a ground beef product and were testing out ways to make it bloody and sell it in the meat counter with real meat. I hope they make a non-bloody, not sold by meat version for vegan/vegetarians.

I love the general whatever it's called chicken salad with this stuff they sell at WF. I don't like buying food from WF though because I get a 20% discount at New Seasons, so I feel like I'm wasting precious monies. But mmm.

Any idea if Food Fight still has this in bulk?

Pretty sure they do; just call or ask at the counter (they keep it in back).
