Hey PDXers, I'm going to be visiting your city for a week next month. I'm travelling with a friend and aside from the obvious gastro- and liquo-tourism, we're planning to spend most of our time playing open mics, bumming around at local shows and independent art spaces, that sort of thing. We play mostly acoustic folky sorts of things but are happy to hear good indie pop and rock music. Can you recommend any venues (or events between the 9th and 16th) we might find interesting things at?

I can't really think of open mics that I've seen much attendance at (well, besides the dive bar in my neighborhood that has a sign up about them) but, apparently this exists: http://www.openmicportland.com/ Have a great time!

Hiya Victoriania-er!

I'm going to be visiting your city for a week next month (pretty much exactly when you'll be down here actually) & would appreciate your VicTips!

The Red & Black is a vegan cafe & events space down here. Here's a link to there events calendar: http://www.redandblackcafe.com/events/

I'm sad Someday Lounge closed. Sounds like that would have been your jam.

The Independent Publishing Resource Center is a great local indy art space with a zine library, letterpress and screenprinting classes, and more. I don't think they do open mic nights, but they do have readings and art shows and other events: http://www.iprc.org

julialegume: Well, now I'm sad that Someday Lounge closed, too.

molassesjane and jdfunks: Thanks for the ideas!

cascadianvegan: I was already meaning to go to Red and Black but hadn't noticed that they had shows. Sweet. I'll send you everything I know about Victoria.
