I've gone on that journey several times (years ago though) and sadly my recommendations are Taco Bell and Subway.

I don't know much on the highway, but if you stop in Baker City, Paizano's Pizza had some great vegan options when I was there last year: http://www.paizanospizza.com/

JP, thank you for the tip! We drove this route today, and stopped at Paizano's. The pizza was just fantastic, and it brought us into Baker City, which we probably would have passed by otherwise. What a sweet little town. We walked around for an hour after taking photos of the gorgeous buildings. Totally worth the stop.

Yay for Baker City! There's a big bicycle stage race there in late June, which is pretty awesome. One of the stages takes place in a circuit around/in the cute downtown, and it's really fun.

We were surprised at the quality of food available in Boise, but didn't eat anything along the way. Good to know there's a place!

We went to Boise's vegan BBQ place (not all vegan, but 1/2 vegan). It was astonishing and we went twice. Jerk squash, BBQ tempeh is chocolate raspberry BBQ sauce, mac n' cheese (ask for the vegan kind), potato salad, hazelnut squash, lemon bars. Heaven. http://mftque.com

Awhhhh my bestest friend in the whole world owns the Lone Pine Cafe in Baker City. Did you go there? The menu is not vegan friendly at all by glance, but she will happily make alterations accordingly, she's very knowledgable about what is and isn't vegan.

I didn't go there, but we'll be driving back through next week and will have to stop by! We already plan to go back to eat more Paizano's, and might spend a night there, so will look for Lone Pine Café (what a great name for a small town café!)

Any new tips for places to stop on this route? We're headed to Sun Valley from Bellingham this weekend and will be on I-84 starting a bit before Pendleton (where I-82 meets I-84).

KJ, not sure if you're up to making a detour, but Walla Walla WA has a vegan bakery called Fine-Ly Made Baked Goods! I was born and spent my baby years in Waitsburg, about half an hour east of Walla Walla, and they boast a pretty sweet brewery called Naht Leppur that makes a tasty peach hefe.

I've heard of Mother's Marketplace in Hood River, but if you google "vegan Hood River" it looks like there are a few vegan-friendly restaurants. That's also the production facility for Turtle Island Foods (but they don't serve food there).
