I'm going to be in Portland in August for three days. I want to know where I should eat. I'm probably going to Portobello one night so other stuff. I'm staying at the Hawthorne hostel so stuff that's easily accessible by bus is good.

Blossoming Lotus, Harlow, Sweet Hereafter, AND Cafe, The Sudra, Bye and Bye, Sweet Hereafter, Homegrown Smoker, Back to Eden and White Owl Social Club are good bets. I know there are a few older threads about this as well.

My favorite meal in Portland is the Della Salute pizza at Dove Vivi.

Sweet Hereafter (nooch-covered tofu bowl!), Harlow (really good tempeh dishes), and Paradox (brunch!) are amazing and only a couple of blocks away. I hear there's a good new donut place a on 35th and hawthorne that my friend said is good enough to rival voodoo, but I haven't tried them yet, so don't blame me if they're not haha. Also, let me know if you want to meet up at all!

The Sudra, Portobello or Departure or Blossoming Lotus (if you're picking one 'nicer' spot), Bye & Bye or Sweet Hereafter, Back to Eden, Homegrown Smoker and somewhere for brunch are pretty must-spots. For Hawthorne hostel walking distance, I'd recommend Sweet Hereafter (especially if you like cocktails and bowls), Canteen (fresh juices, smoothies & bowls) Suzette's (if you like $7-9 crepes), Los Gorditos (sit outside Apex if you like beer!), Portobello (pretty much a must) and the whole Vegan Mini Mall, of course. Have a lovely time!

Blue Star is the new donut location. I haven't been yet either.
There's also a new all vegan sushi cart on Belmont. Hungry Tiger had a major revamp a while back and a lot of people say the new menu isn't as good. I haven't been there since the changes.

Hooorah! I am coming to Portland this weekend!
I am bringing my hubs, and it will be his first time in PDX. I am so excited to show him around. I am also having to practice great self-control and trying not to bombard him with non-stop exposure to my family and friends. I want him to feel like he gets to explore and discover places too. That said, I am in charge of eating!

Two most important questions: Where can I get good frozen yogurt? I've seen pics recently of some good stuff, but can't remember wehre it was from? Also, who has the best Sunday brunch? I was thinking of going to Blossoming Lotus, because I've never been to their sunday brunch. Any hot tips?

Eb and Bean is the new vegan-friendly fro yo place. Blossoming Lotus does have great brunch, and is conveniently around the corner from Eb and Bean.

Thanks Pandacookie!

Okay here's a question. Friday night my family wants to go out to dinner. At this point, it has grown to a group of TEN people (ack!). Departure only has 5 pm or 9 pm (not ideal), and Portobello is all full. What's another good spot for a big group that might not be all booked up already? Thank you!

Blossoming Lotus
Farm Café (omni, has good vegan options)
Hanoi Kitchen (omni. Vietnamese. Delicious)
Vita Café (omni. more casual)
Jade Patisserie in Sellwood (excellent vegan options. stunning food. has an upstairs that could accommodate ten), plus it's a cute neighbourhood to walk around.
or could you see a movie and then take the 9pm at Departure? Or take the 5pm and then go for a walk on the river. The views from Departure are wonderful.

MJ ~ this is awesome!! Thanks so much for such speedy and great ideas! I really want to try Vietnamese food, so even if we don't go to Hanoi Kitchen on Friday, I will try to go there on this trip. Three cheers for vegan pals!

In the end, we went to Departure - and it was great! We went at 5:00 and there were great views. It was a good spot with ten people - because we could order and try so many things and everyone was happy with so many choices. It was pretty rad to see my 99-year old great aunt hanging out at Departure! ha ha. She loved the food though! Even my super picky former-chef cousin absolutely loved the food, so I was happy.

We had a great trip in Portland, but I sure wish I could have had more time to hang out with so many awesome PPK pals. It was half family-trip and half-anniversary trip with my hubs, so I felt like it wasn't really fair to my husband to make him spend all three days hanging out with my friends... plus I knew he wanted some time with just the two of us. On Monday we went up the Columbia Gorge which was so fun and he probably loved that most of all. Now I will have to sneak back to PDX and just spend days hanging with all my pals!!

also, we went to Vita cafe for breakfast one day, we went to blossoming lotus for Sunday Brunch (and kittee came too!! <3), had some pastries at Sweetpea ... so we hit a few of the vegan hotspots!
