Hello! My omni boyfriend and I are making a quick trip to Portland in a few weeks. Our flight gets in around 8:15 on a Friday and so I'm looking for something to eat that would be relatively quick and easy either between the airport and downtown or near our hotel downtown (near Broadway and Taylor). I would love to go to Departure but I think we'll be too tired for a fancy sit down meal at 10pm. We love ethnic food (thai, vietnamese, middle eastern, really anything) and he'd probably prefer that to an all vegan place but I'm open to anything!

And an aside - does Flavour Spot still exist and does it still have a vegan maple sausage waffle sandwich? I've been thinking about it since I had it 5 years ago! We're leaving town in the morning so I thought it would be fun to grab one of those and some VooDoo Donuts for the road.

Thanks!

Bye and Bye for dinner? Alternatively, Vita Cafe?

I think there's only one Flavor Spot now; it's on Lombard 3 or 4 blocks west of Denver. They DO have the sausage and maple thing. :)

If you want to do downtown maybe Jackknife (though someone told me recently they had something super gross from there--everything I've had has been good).

Thanks for the recommendations! These all look promising, and Jackknife is only a 5 minute walk from out hotel. What is the parking situation like on a Friday night at Vita Cafe and Bye and Bye?

re: jackknife
haha, well, I'd advise against the philly cheezesteak thing. The fries and dips were super good, though and it's a big (and new!) menu, with even more exciting cocktails.

if you're feeling vietnamese, head to luc lac for pho! open super duper late.

santeria taqueria is also open late (never been, but it's supposed to be pretty vegan friendly with soy curls and daiya and whatnot).

oh, and sizzle pie!!

Glad I found your review of Jackknife. I'm heading back to PDX for 5 nights in 2 weeks and this place is next door to my hotel. Is the pizza place a few blocks from there with all the vegan options good? Blanking on the name.

Edit to add that I am an idiot, Sizzle Pie is the pizza place.

Any other options by the Sentinel Hotel?

I think Sizzle Pie is pretty universally liked.

Not sure if you visited already but parking around Bye & Bye or Vita should be fairly easy. It's all street parking, no meters or time limits for the most part. Not anywhere near as bad as downtown.

Thanks, everybody! I hope I can do the same for you guys if you come visit Chicago!

Our flight was somehow 40 minutes early (That NEVER happens out of O'Hare!) so we got a last minute reservation at Departure. The food was great, and I liked the restaurant itself (amazing view and decor), but it felt like too much of scene which really isn't our thing. Going to grab some VooDoo and head out of town..hopefully we'll have time for Flavour Spot on the way home!

My sizzle pie slice for dinner tonight was delicious! Thanks for the recommendation.
