STOP YOU'RE THE BEST
my life preferences are pretty much: I don't really drink, everything else is a-okay, I enjoy cafes and books a lot, and art shiitake obvi!
my food preferences: delicious things? I'm usually very in to touchy feely healthy foods... and donuts, but I am not even a little bit picky!! anything delicious.

eta: I currently live in an area with exactly two vegan restaurants and VERY FEW other options so everything is exciting about portland.

I managed to eat so many biscuits and gravy, that by the end of my trip I just wanted a freaking salad.

What are healthy options in Portland? Last time I stuffed myself with donuts and fried pies but this time I'd like healthier options.

Blossoming Lotus & Natural Selection are healthy for a nice sit down dinner or brunch.

Juniper & Native Bowl for food carts.

But I'd say there's great healthy stuff everywhere. Even Sizzle Pie has killer salads!

These are my initial thoughts but I'll have more!

SE Portland eats since I'm guessing you might not have a ton of time to schlep all over:
Harlow for healthy super Portlandy bowls of veggies and stuff (good brunch too)
AND Cafe for decadent brunch
Back to Eden cart for baked goods and soft serve
Blue Star Donuts for donuts, duh
Sweet Hereafter for sandwiches and bowls (buffalo sub or bahn mi with one of the kale sides is my rec)
Next Level Burger not because it's amazing but because it's the all-vegan place a few blocks from where you'll be staying

Downtown eats:
Sizzle Pie because pizza
Vtopia at least for a cheese plate because goddamn you can just go out for a vegan cheese plate now

Other stuff:
Definitely second Reading Frenzy, and I guess go to Homegrown Smoker while you're on Mississippi
Museum of Contemporary Craft
Portland Art Museum has an exhibit of Native American photographers right now that looks rad
Obviously Powell's, they have a pretty decent collection of zines too
I don't know if visiting the Independent Publishing Resource Center would be super valuable if you don't have an active project to work on but it seems like a place you would be into anyway
In Other Words is a feminist community center and bookstore

If you strongly prefer raised doughnuts over cake then go to the east side Voodoo at a time when there's not a line but I don't really know when that is anymore.

That buffalo sub at Sweet Hereafter is worth it. And I normally hate everything buffalo flavored!

On donuts, Blue Star has this orange olive oil cake donut covered in powdered sugar and it's pure heaven. Voodoo has traditional white cream filled/chocolate covered & Boston cream yeast donuts.

Oh & Hip City Veg has way better shakes than Next Level Burger. But NLB has a wider variety of flavor options and are still really good. I didn't love the buyers we got, hubbie didn't either. Try the chili fries or something, fries were good!

The Museum of Contemporary Craft closes after April 23, so go while you can.

It's being folded into the PNCC.

What is PNCC? I went to the Museum of Contemporary Craft first time I went and I enjoyed it. I've been to the art museum on both of my visits. I have two days to myself and three planned days so I want to make the most of my time alone.

PNCA, not PNCC. The northwest art college.

My go-to for this is Canteen, which has juices and smoothies and bowls.

I'll second Sizzle Pie's salads - they're great. They're not super duper healthy, but they're a big pile of greens and veggies, which can be a nice change if you're subsisting on deep-fried vacation food. :)

Vita Cafe has some good salads healthier breakfast options (scrambled tofu with veggies, etc.) alongside some more decadent ones (vegan tofu florentine).

You can also check out Prasad, which is pricier raw-ish stuff with lots of juices and smoothies as well.

Thanks JP!

Boober I don't mean to hijack your thread! It just seems to make more sense to ask my question here rather than start my own one.

Eta- ooh I just saw Back to the Land's food cart is right down the street from thee hostel!

I second Prasad and salads at Sizzle Pie. The last time I was in Portland, I stayed downtown and ate almost exclusively at Prasad with a couple of trips to DC Veg.
