My pal Courtney and I are having a vegan bake sale to support the Mercury Cafe in San Francisco! It is where she works. The Mercury Cafe wants to build a parklet in the front of their shop but they don’t have the funds, right, so we need to get them the funds.
The thing with bake sales is they usually end up being 90% cookies and cupcakes. Which are delicious! But, variety. It is the spice of life, as the idiom goes.
Toward that end I would ask you, dear PPKers: what do you like to see at bake sales?
(Also if you are in the Bay Area and are in the position to donate many baked goods on May 22nd that would be super)

We had a bake sale for Japan in Santa Cruz and the savory items sold out really quickly, which surprised me. There was flatbread, a tofu tart, and pretzels. I might be forgetting about something else.

Savory scones! Maybe slices of quiche?

QUICHE! I've never made vegan quiche. Does Isa have a good quiche recipe or should I look further afield?

ooh.. you know what's funny Kate? I, um, already made brownies thinking the bake sale was this past Sunday. heh. but I will make more, and maybe a savory. Imitation of Chris makes awesome focaccia for bake sales that sell. Or maybe some savory/cheesy biscuts/scones. But I experimented with some peanut butter pretzel brownies and they were pri-ty good.

I never heard of Mercury Cafe. Google says they have vegan chili and scones. Anything else?

I think sometimes they have some soups and sandwiches that are vegan but they don't have a ton of food. But the scones look really good! I haven't tried them...
On another note- check out the bake sale tomorrow! they are really nice folks- they let us have the vegan bakesale to benefit Haiti at their shop when we got rained out around the corner. And the owner was just super supportive and bought a ton of stuff and I think was really sort of blown away and impressed by the vegan baked goods.
Also, they have beer and wine.

Oh, I can't make it tomorrow, but I did bring over the PB pretzel brownies just a few minutes ago.

Ah I totally saw you and didn't realize it was you! We sold out of all of your brownies, everyone said they were amazing. Thank you so much for bringing those by!
