Last night my bf and I went to Pizza Moda, the new restaurant that's opened at the site of the defunct Fellini/Divino. I wasn't sure about it at first but all my fears flew out the window when I walked in and saw the original owner of Fellini, Jeff. He had returned the Smiling Cow and the vegan Caesar Salad to the menu and also has a vegan mac and cheese now! I had the first two, which were amazing, and look forward to trying the vegan mac & cheese.
Jeff came over while we were eating and introduced himself and was so incredibly nice and gracious. Apparently I am the first person to order the triumphant return of the smiling cow! I asked if he would be bringing brunch back AND HE SAID YES!!! It'll be a few months, until the dinner business stabilizes, but I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE ANOTHER VEGAN BRUNCH OPTION coming to the east bay!
He even came by after our meal and insisted on giving us a complimentary slice of vegan chocolate cake. I don't know if they still use Black China bakery, because it's been a while since I've had their stuff and this looked different. It also tasted different too, moister and fluffier, so either BC finally got their shiitake together or he has found a new, closer vegan bakery (maybe someone like Fat Bottom?).
He asked to let the vegans of the bay area know that the Smiling Cow is back! Consider my job done! And holy crepe, when they start brunch again, expect me to be the first vegan there. See you jerks there!

Oh yeah, maybe not everyone automatically knows what The Smiling cow is? It's a vegan pizza with daiya, red onions, and two types of vegan sausage (slices and crumbles). YUMZ.
They also have a ton of other pizzas (kabocha! kale!) that you can veganize for another $1 or 2.

Yay! I had brunch at Fellini a couple of times back in the day and liked it so much, and it's conveniently located near some friends of mine up that way.
