Have they always used Black China for their vegan cakes or is it new? I am thinking new or different formula. The cake is in slices now instead of big ol' squares. Also we bought chocolate cake & carrot cake & they both tasted awful and in the past the cake was good. My boyfriend said the carrot cake was awful. I took two bites of the chocolate and PMS cravings could not even let me finish it, dry and hard...The boyfriend said it was 'okay' but tasted bad at the end...

I'm usually closer to the Berkeley WF and for at least the last 7 years they've always used Black China for their vegan cakes and cupcakes. Black China has a few decent options when it's fresh from their bakery in Santa Cruz but their stuff is definitely not shelf stable.

Maybe it was just different or bad cake? Again - the slices are different & I never noticed the BC name on the label before.

that's exactly my experience. they used to have a cafe here and all the stuff was fresh and super good. and also, even now, you can order cakes from them and sometimes people order me vegan birthday cakes from them - and they are always pretty good. But, in the store, they always taste dry and flavorless. :(
