Can anyone recommend a tattoo person in the bay - I prefer East Bay or SF that has their shiitake together? Vegan supplies a must and that can work with kawaii/cute imagery...The last few artists that I have been to have given me a freakin' headache.

Sorry to say I haven't been able to find anyone locally who can guarantee me that their ink is vegan. The best I've done so far is Black Heart on Valencia in SF, I've had pieces done by Jeff Rassier and Tim Lehi, and they mix all their own colors, so you can request that any colors they mix for you are exclusively vegan.

My good people at Tattoo Boogaloo in North Beach use all Eternal Inks, as far as I know, which are vegan. They're super awesome and would probably be more than happy to answer your questions and either work with you or be honest about not being able to do so.

Keep in mind that stencil paper is probably not vegan. Scapegoat Tattoo in Portland, OR stopped calling themselves vegan for this reason.

Heads up Jasmine Wright will be in SF starting mid May and uses vegan inks:

I know others at Seventh Son do not use vegan ink.

i have a few more shops to add to the list but i thought i would post this since i know diving swallow has come up in the past (or at least i thought it did).

hi there kendy~

the ink we use at diving swallow is vegan but i cannot guarantee that other aspects of the tattooing process will be 100% vegan. there are often hidden animal product ingredients in different tools that we use from razors to the ointment that we use while we're tattooing. diving swallow is not a vegan shop and so we don't strive to source 100% vegan supplies.

best,
ruby jae

I work a few blocks from Old Crow Tattoo (in Oakland, Adam's Point) and know at least a couple of the artists there are vegan. I know nothing about their aesthetic, inks, pricing, etc, but could be worth a shot.
