The guy and I are going to stay the night in Oakland in December. We go for a day - run out of time and have to drive 90 minutes back all grumpy. So why not a weekend and cram it full?

So I was looking for something cozy and nice..I have not stayed in many hotels and do not know what to look for. So far I am looking at the Inn - Jack London Square...

Girl, NO. That place is notoriously skeezy. I would recommend the Marriott on Broadway, same neighborhood but less nasty.

OKAY! See from the photos it looked nice. I know nothing about hotels - also the East Bay is destination driven for us and looking into other areas is fun but Amoeba/Rasputin/eating vegan food is most important...so we usually stick to Telegraph...

In that case, are you opposed to staying in Berkeley? There are a lot of reasonably priced hotels because of the university nearby. There are a couple of really charming boutique hotels in the middle of downtown Berkeley, and a good selection of chain motels along University Ave (although I think Isa once stayed at that La Quinta and said it was nasty).

I know you already decided but did you check airbnb? I always mean to check them out when we travel. I think you can find some cool places!

Oooh, good point. I've done Air BnB in Tahoe and in Hawaii, and both times it was great.

A mini review of the Palomar in SF.

The gal running the front desk was vegan and had kale chips, lara bars and seeds sent up to our room with soy milk! We got feather free room stuff - you have to request it, I did not realize it till a few hours before check in...Free on demand yoga & mats provided - love it! The comp bar had a few vegan options like Hones-Tea, clif/luna bars and nuts...

I will stay again!
