Hey everybody! I just moved to San Fransisco in order to attend grad school. I'm currently looking for a place to live and have either been staying in residential hotels (one slightly sketchy one at 16th and Mission) or temp. with friends. Thus, being without a kitchen, I've mostly been living on granola bars, peanut butter, dry cereal, and fruit. After a week and a half, I'm starting to crave real, hot food! Any suggestions? Cheap all you can eat buffets would be the best, (going to pack it in!) or just anything hot and cheap in general! Also if you have any advice on housing, apartment searches, cool things to do, ect.. please let me know. Once I get a place I'd totally be down for some vegan pot lucks, or starting up a book club, whatever. THANKS!

Hmmm, there's an indian buffet on Fillmore called India Palace. I think it's like 10 bucks and they can tell you what has ghee or cream in it. Usually 2 or 3 of the curries are good, the samosas, dahl and pakoras. They even made roti for us without butter since they had naan out.

Get burritos! My favorite places are Papalote (mole tofu burrito with guac) and El Toro (beans/rice/avocado/tomato burrito with lots of pico de gallo).

Black bean burger + tots at Benders, a crapton of food from Big Lantern, or cross the bay to Souley Vegan.

The seitan philly 'cheese' steak at Benders is $9 and it's GINORMOUS and comes with tots. I also love Papalote, but I haven't been there in what feels like forever.

SF Food Not Bombs serving at 16th and Mission on Thursdays!!! They mostly serve ricey-beany things, but it's hot and free! You can't get any cheaper than free! Plus, you're very likely to meet some cool vegans.

Since you're in the Mission, cheap good vegan stuff is always found at Papalote, Pancho Villa, or El Toro. I would eat at those places all the time when I was dirt poor but wanted to eat out.

Also, for a HUGE plate of food for pretty cheap, there's Udupi Palace at Valencia and 21st. You're likely to feel full for quite a while after eating there...
